YRT revises routes and services, April 17



York Region Transit is introducing two new community bus routes next Thursday, April 21in Maple and Woodbridge.

It’s also making minor changes to its other routes, starting Sunday, April 17.

YRT is also giving advance notice that it will introduce a new 24 Woodbine route, starting Sunday, June 19.

Buses serving the new route will operate daily between the Honda Canada plant north of Elgin Mills Road East and Don Mills Station. The new route replaces current service along YRT’s 224B Woodbine route and TTC service north of Steeles Avenue East along the 24 Victoria Park and 224 Victoria Park North routes.

Transit Toronto will detail this service change in a future post.


YRT is revising service along these routes: Dial-a-Ride North; Viva blue; Viva orange; Viva pink; Viva purple; Viva yellow; 4 Major Mackenzie, 5 Clark, 18 Bur Oak, 83 Trench, 88 Bathurst, 90 Leslie, 413 St. Robert high school special, 413 St. Robert / Thornlea high school special, 520 / 521 Newmarket community bus, 560 Maple community bus, 561 Woodbridge community bus; 760 Wonderland / Vaughan Mills.

Introducing new routes


560 Maple community bus

Starting Thursday, April 21, YRT introduces new community bus service in the Maple area. Buses connect Vaughan Mills Terminal, FreshCo, Walmart and Fortinos. Buses provide three round trips from about 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursdays only.

Southbound buses leave the Mapleglen Residence on Major Mackenzie Drive West east of Keele Street at 10 and 11:40 a.m. and 1:20 p.m. Thursdays. They end their trips in Vaughan Mills Terminal at 10:43 a.m. and 12:23 and 2:03 p.m.

Southbound buses proceed from Mapleglen:

westward along Major Mackenzie Drive West;
south- and eastward to Fortino’s;
northward along Melville Avenue;
westward along Major Mackenzie West;
northward along Cityview Boulevard;
westward to Walmart Maple West Supercentre;
southward along Vellore Park Avenue and Starling Boulevard;
westward through the south side of the FreshCo property;
northward along Jane Street;
eastward to FreshCo;
southward along Starling;
eastward along Hawstone Road;
southward along Vellore Woods Boulevard;
eastward along Rutherford Road;
southward along Sweetriver Boulevard;
east- and southward along Fishermen’s Way; and then

Northbound buses leave Blue Willow Terrace (residence) at 10 and 11:20 a.m. and 12:40 p.m. Thursdays They end their trips in Vaughan Mills Terminal at 10:36 and 11:56 a.m. and 1:16 p.m.

Northbound buses proceed from Blue Willow Terrace:

northward along Fieldstone Drive;
westward along Blue Willow Drive;
southward along Ansley Grove Road;
eastward along Windflower Gate;
south-, east- and northward to Fortino’s;

eastward along Fieldstone, Chrislea Road and Portage Parkway;

Increasing service along routes


55 Davis Drive

Starting Sunday, February 14, YRT revised the path for buses operating along the route so that buses started and ended their trips in the 404 Town Centre Terminal, instead of the Highway 404 / Davis “Park and Ride” carpool lot.

Westbound buses (again) pick up passengers at a stop:

  • in 404 Town Centre terminal.

Eastbound buses (again) drop off or pick up passengers at stops:

  • on Leslie Street north of Davis Drive and
  • in 404 Town Centre terminal.

Starting Monday, April 4, YRT expanded the service area to include all of the Towns of East Gwillimbury and Georgina.

Starting Sunday, May 1, YRT resumes service to and from Canada’s Wonderland Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Sundays, May 1, May 8, May 15, May 29 and June 5, northbound buses leave Finch GO Bus Terminal at 9 a.m. and every hour until 8 p.m. They end their trips in Wonderland Terminal at 9:45 a.m. and every hour until 12:45 p.m. and 1:46 p.m. and every hour until 7:46 p.m.

Southbound buses leave Wonderland at 10 a.m. and every hour until 8 p.m. They end their trips in Finch terminal at 10:44 a.m. and every hour until 12:44 p.m., 1:45 p.m. and every hour until 7:45 p.m. and 8:41 p.m.

Starting Saturday, May 7, northbound buses leave Finch GO Bus Terminal at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 30 minutes until noon, 1 p.m. and every hour until 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and every 30 minutes until 9 p.m. Saturdays. They end their trips in Wonderland Terminal at 9:46 a.m. and every 30 minutes until 12:16 p.m., 12:48 p.m. and every hour until 6:48 p.m. and 7:18 p.m., 7:47 p.m. and every 30 minutes until 9:47 p.m.

Southbound buses leave Wonderland at 10 a.m. and every 30 minutes until noon, 1 p.m. and every hour until 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and every 30 minutes until 10 p.m. They end their trips in Finch terminal at 10:47 a.m. and every 30 minutes until 12:17 p.m., 12:51 p.m., 1:47 p.m. and every hour until 4:47 p.m., 5:50, 6:50 and 7:20 p.m., 7:44 p.m. and every 30 minutes until 10:14 p.m. and 10:41 p.m.

Sundays, May 22, Victoria Day, Monday, May 23 and Sundays June 12 and June 19, northbound buses leave Finch GO Bus Terminal at 9 a.m. and every hour until 10 p.m. They end their trips in Wonderland Terminal at 9:45 a.m. and every hour until 12:45 p.m., 1:46 p.m. and every hour until 7:46 p.m., 8:43 and 9:49 p.m.

Southbound buses leave Wonderland at 10 a.m. and every hour until 8 p.m. They end their trips in Finch terminal at 10:44 a.m. and every hour until 12:44 p.m., 1:45 p.m. and every hour until 7:45 p.m. and 8:41, 9:42 and 10:42 p.m.

YRT increases service in late June and throughout July and August.

Viva blue

Starting Monday, April 18, YRT operates more southbound buses Mondays to Fridays during morning rush hours. It also operates an earlier northbound bus leaving Finch GO Bus Terminal at 5:30 a.m.

561 Woodbridge community bus

  • on Davis Drive at Harry Walker Parkway and across from Forhan Drive.

88 Bathurst

YRT is increasing the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays and Saturdays.

Starting Monday, April 18, buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route:

  • every 29 minutes, instead of every 38 minutes Mondays to Fridays after 10 p.m.

Starting Saturday, April 23, they serve passengers at stops along the route:

  • every 34 minutes, instead of every 36 minutes, Saturdays before about 10 a.m.

YRT is also decreasing the frequency of service along the route at other times of the week.

YRT is decreasing the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.

Starting Monday, April 18, buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route:

  • every 14 minutes, instead of every 13 minutes.

YRT is also increasing the frequency of service along the route at other times of the week.

YRT is increasing the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays before about 7 p.m.

Starting Monday, April 18, buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route:

  • every 17 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, during rush hours; and
  • every 32 minutes, instead of every 28 minutes, from about 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

521 Newmarket community bus counterclockwise

YRT is decreasing the frequency of service along the counterclockwise route Mondays to Fridays.

Starting Monday, April 18, buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route:

  • every 2 hours, five minutes, instead of every 2 hours.

YRT is maintaining the usual 2-hour frequency along the 520 clockwise community bus route daily.

YRT decreases the frequency of service for buses operating along the route Mondays to Fridays during morning rush hours.

Starting Monday, April 18, buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the branch:

  • every 35 minutes, instead of every 30 minutes.

Less frequent service, YRT says, improves service for passengers travelling to arrive at Richmond Green Secondary School before the morning bell.

With the new schedules, buses arrive at secondary schools along the branch:

  • Richmond Green Secondary School: northbound at 9:06 a.m.;
  • Jean Vanier Catholic High School: northbound at 7:51 a.m.; southbound at 8:13 a.m.; and
  • Alexander Mackenzie High School: northbound at 8:11 a.m.; southbound at 8:28 a.m.

Viva orange

With the end of the fall / winter academic term at York University’s Keele campus, YRT decreases the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays.

Starting Monday, April 18, buses drop off or pick up passengers at vivastations:

  • every 16 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, during rush hours; and
  • every 24 minutes, instead of every 23 minutes after about 7 p.m.
Viva purple

With the end of the fall / winter academic term at York University’s Keele campus, starting Monday, April 18, YRT no longer operates short-turn buses between the campus and Richmond Hill Centre Terminal. That results in less frequent service west of the terminal Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. On that western section of the route, buses drop off or pick up passengers at vivastations:

  • every 15 minutes, instead of every 7½ minutes.

Revising the path for buses operating along routes


55 Davis Drive

55 branch

Starting Sunday, February 14, YRT revised the path for buses operating along the route so that buses started and ended their trips in the 404 Town Centre Terminal, instead of the Highway 404 / Davis “Park and Ride” carpool lot.

Westbound buses again start their trips in the 404 Town Centre Terminal, then proceed:

southward along the 404 Town Centre [mall] access road to Davis Drive,
resuming their regular route westward along Davis.

Westbound buses no longer drop off or pick up passengers at stops:

  • in the Highway 404 / Davis “Park and Ride” carpool lot and
  • on Davis Drive at Harry Walker Parkway and across from Forhan Drive.

Instead, they (again) pick up passengers at a stop:

  • in 404 Town Centre terminal.

Eastbound buses operate along the usual route to Davis Drive and Leslie Street, then proceed:

  • northward along Leslie; and then
    eastward along the 404 Town Centre access road to the 404 Town Centre terminal,
    ending their trips.

Eastbound buses no longer drop off or pick up passengers at stops

  • on Davis Drive at Harry Walker Parkway and across from Forhan Drive and
  • in the Highway 404 / Davis “Park and Ride” carpool lot.

Instead, eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops:

  • on Leslie Street north of Davis Drive and
  • in 404 Town Centre terminal.

Buses serving the main 55 branch of the route operate at all times of the week, except Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. Buses operating along the 55B branch of the route operate only during rush hours.

55B branch

Buses continue to operate along their regular route between the Highway 404 / Davis “Park and Ride” carpool lot and Newmarket GO Bus Terminal.

520 / 521 Newmarket community bus

With end of rapidway construction along Davis Drive, the community buses again drop off or pick up passengers at the Newmarket Seniors’ Centre.

YRT is also decreasing the frequency of service along the counterclockwise route, route 521.

18 Bur Oak

Starting Saturday, April 23, YRT adjusts the schedules for buses operating along the route Saturdays.

90 Leslie

Starting Monday, April 18, the southbound bus that usually leave Richmond Green Secondary School at 2:13 p.m. Mondays to Fridays leaves, instead, four minutes later at 2:17 p.m. The bus drops off or picks up passengers at stops along the route four minutes later than usually. It ends its trip in Don Mills Station bus terminal at 2:56 p.m.

The later trip improves service to passengers traveling from St. Robert Catholic High School after the afternoon bell. The bus that usually arrives at the school at 2:36 p.m., instead of 2:32 p.m.

413 St. Robert high school special

Starting Monday, April 18, the southbound bus that usually leaves the school at 2:50 p.m. Monday-to-Friday school days leaves, instead, five minutes earlier at 2:45 p.m. It ends its trip on Simonston Boulevard [north] east of Don Mills Road at 3:15 p.m.

YRT is also making another change to service along the route.
