TTC testing streetcars on Cherry Street,
April 20 to 22

Thanks to MD for the “heads-up”.

1st streetcar on Cherry #2.jpgStarting 9 a.m. today, Wednesday, April 20, TTC crews are testing streetcars along Sumach and Cherry Streets between King Street East and the Distillery Loop, south of Mill Street.

They’ll continue testing the cars, tracks, switches and overhead wiring until Friday, April 22.

The TTC must test this infrastructure before it can start regularly operating streetcars along the track. Over the course of three days, crews may also work overnight. They’ll use a streetcar and overhead wiring trucks through most of the test period.

Toronto Police Service officers will remove your vehicle if they find it on or near the track allowance after 11 p.m. Tuesday, April 19 — at your expense.

The TTC has scheduled regular streetcar service along the new 514 Cherry route to start Sunday, June 19.

A reader tells us that during the testing two TTC crew members walk ahead of the streetcar, while two more walk behind it. A TTC flatbed truck contains two more crew mates, who are inspecting the wiring.
