Introducing a new route

77 busPLUS Wilmot

Starting Monday, April 25, GRT introduces new service, linking New Hamburg, Baden and Petersburg in the Township of Wilmot with The Boardwalk in Waterloo.

Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation has awarded the Region of Waterloo funding to conduct a one-year community transportation pilot project in the township.

Buses operate both ways through New Hamburg along Waterloo Street, Huron Street and Peel Street Mondays to Fridays.

Eastbound buses start their trips at the No Frills in New Hamburg, then proceed:

northward along Haysville Road and Peel Street;
westward along Huron Street;
northwestward along Waterloo Street;
eastward along Snyder’s Roads West and East and Highland Road West;
northward along Ira Needles Boulevard; and then
westward into The Boardwalk terminal.

Eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops

  • at No Frills,
  • on Peel Street north of Highways 7 and 8 and at Boulee Street,
  • on Huron Street at Union Street,
  • on Waterloo Street beside the Wilmot Family Resource Centre, at Victoria Street and across from Christner Road,
  • on Snyder’s Road West across from Waterloo Oxford District Secondary School and at Foundry Street,
  • on Snyder’s Road East at Coachman’s Lane, Forler Street and Notre Dame Drive and
  • in The Boardwalk terminal.

Eastbound buses leave New Hamburg at 7:30, 9 and 10:15 a.m. and 2:35, 3:45, 5 and 6:15 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. They end their trips in The Boardwalk terminal at 8:08, 9:23 and 10:38 a.m. and 2:58, 4:08, 5 and 6:15 a.m.

Westbound buses reverse the eastbound routing.

Westbound buses leave The Boardwalk at 7, 8:15 and 9:30 a.m. and 3, 4:15, 5:30 and 6:45 p.m. They end their trips in New Hamburg at 7:23, 8:38 and 9:53 a.m. and 3:23, 4:38, 5:53 and 7:08 p.m.

As part of the pilot, GRT offers passengers flex routing to and from The Boardwalk Medical Centre and the Wilmot Recreation Complex and through the Forrest / Hincks, Stonecroft, Nithview and Morningside communities. Flex routing allows the bus to travel off the main route to pick up passengers who call ahead to ask for service. GRT has clearly labelled flex route stops to indicate that the buses serve them upon request only.

If you want the vehicle to pick you up along one of the flex route areas, call 519-585-7555 and select option 3.

An information agent will ask you:

  • Which flex route area you wish to be picked up in - you can provide this information by giving either theeasyGO stop number or the flex route name;
  • The time you want the vehicle to pick you up;
  • Whether you need to schedule a flex trip for a return trip during the same day and if so, which flex area it will be in and at what time.

The agent will confirm the trip.

You must be at the stop at least five minutes before the scheduled pick-up time. The bus will not wait if you are not there.

If you want to get off at a Flex stop, you must notify the driver when you board the bus of which flex route you want to get off at

Flex stop requests are available between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. only.f you want to be picked up on an earlier trip, you must call the day before during the hours noted above.

Vehicles operating along the route do not have bike racks and drivers will not permit bikes on board the vehicle during the pilot.
