Weekend events affect transit services,
April 30, May 1



Two major marathons — the Mississauga Marathon in the City Centre, Erin Mills, Erindale, Clarkson, Lorne Park and Port Credit communities of Mississauga and the Goodlife Fitness Toronto Marathon in central and downtown Toronto — block streets and disrupt transit services this weekend.

The annual Khalsa Day Procession winds its way through the Malton area of Mississauga and the Rexdale area of Toronto this Sunday, an event that annually attracts more than 40,000 participants and also results in extensive transit detours.

Meanwhile, smaller events in Oakville, downtown Toronto and Waterloo also affect transit services this weekend.

The City of Mississauga is closing

Sunday afternoon to accommodate Ontario Gurdwaras Association’s annual parade.

(Participants march from Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara at 7280 Airport Road in Malton to the Sikh Spiritual Centre at 9 Carrier Drive in Rexdale, so this event also affects transit service in northwestern Toronto. In previous years, the procession has attracted more than 40,000 participants and spectators.)

GO Transit, MiWay and the TTC are detouring bus service during the event. The event may also affect Brampton Transit service.

Mississauga Marathon

The Region of Peel and the City of Mississauga are closing many streets throughout the city this weekend to accommodate the annual race.

Although the race takes place Sunday, the Region and City are closing some streets on Saturday, too, to help organizers set up the course.

On Saturday, the Region and City are closing:

  • Lakeshore Road West at various places east of Meadow Wood Road.

from about 5:30 until 7:30 p.m.

On Sunday, the Region and City are closing:

  • City Centre Drive between Robert Speck Parkway West and Duke of York Boulevard,
  • Burnhamthorpe Road West between Duke of York Boulevard and Mississauga Road;
  • Mississauga Road between Burnhamthorpe and Lakeshore Roads West;
  • Indian Road between Mississauga and Lorne Park Roads;
  • Lorne Park Road between Indian Road and Truscott Drive;
  • Truscott Drive between Lorne Park and Southdown Roads;
  • Southdown Road between Truscott Drive and Lakeshore Road East;
  • Orr Road between Southdown and Meadow Wood Roads;
  • Meadow Wood Road between Orr Road and Lakeshore Road West;
  • Lakeshore Road West at various places between Meadow Wood and Mississauga Roads;

(The University of Toronto is also closing Outer Circle Road through its Mississauga Campus.)

The Marathon events start at 7:30 a.m. As the race participants clear the route, Peel Regional Police officers may reopen the streets to traffic. Most streets reopen by 2:30 p.m.

Participants raise funds to help support several charities in Mississauga and Peel Region.

MiWay and Oakville Transit are detouring buses before and during the event.
