MiWay revises routes and services, May 9

On Monday, May 9, MiWay will revise its services, mostly cancelling or shortening routes and making seasonal reductions to routes serving universities and colleges.

Due to low ridership on Folkway Drive, MiWay is cancelling route 31 Folkway-Homelands and revising route 29 Park Royal to serve the Sheridan Homelands seven days a week. Route 29 will also be removed from Erin Mills Town Centre and instead end at the Erin Mills Transitway station, which until now was only served by GO Transit.

Ever since MiWay revised route 38 Creditview last year to serve Huron Park, residents have been complaining about increased noise and air pollution. After a series of piecemeal reductions in off-peak periods, MiWay will now redirect route 38 to Westdale Mall, removing over half of all service to the park. To free up platform capacity at Westdale, route 44 Mississauga Road will be shortened to end at the University of Toronto campus.

The changes affect these routes: 1 Dundas, 4 Sherway Gardens, 14 Lorne Park, 19 Hurontario, 29 Park Royal-Homelands, 31 Folkway-Homelands, 38 Creditview, 39 Britannia, 43 Matheson-Argentia, 44 MississaugaRoad, 49McDowell, 66, McLaughlin 67 StreetsvilleGO, 87 Meadowvale-Skymark, 90 Terragar-CopenhagenLoop, 101DundasExpress, 107 Malton Express, 110 University Express, and 321 StephenLewis-St.JoanofArc.

Specifically, MiWay is cancelling current routes, revising the path of current routes, increasing the hours of service along routes, decreasing the hours of service along routes, increasing the frequency of service along routes, decreasing the frequency of service along routes, and revising schedules of routes.

Cancelling current routes

31 Folkway - Homelands

Friday, May 6 was the last day that MiWay operated buses on this route.

MiWay will no longer serve any stops on Folkway Drive or Sawmill Valley Drive. Passengers using these stops may have to walk up to 900metres further to the next remaining stop.

Starting Monday, May 9, the Sheridan Homelands section of route 31 will be served daily by a realigned route 29 Park Royal-Homelands.

Revising the path or stopping pattern of routes

38 Creditview

Starting Monday, May 9, MiWay operates this route on a revised path, no longer serving the Huron Park area to appease residents on Paisley Boulevard. MiWay will no longer provide any service to Huron Park during weekday peak periods.

Southbound buses departing stop1831 on WolfedaleRoad at DundasStreet proceed

westward along Dundas Street and
southward along GlengarryRoad,

ending their trips at stop0600 on Glengarry south of Dundas. Northbound buses continue

southward along Glengarry Road;
east- and northward along Cedarglen Gate;
eastward along Dundas Street;

resuming their normal routing northward along Wolfedale.

Passengers to or from Huron Park can use route 4Sherway Gardens outside of the weekday peaks. When route4 is not running, the nearest route38 stop is about 700metres from the entrance, at Dundas and Wolfedale.

MiWay is also increasing weekend service hours and revising schedules on this route.

101 Dundas Express

MiWay is reducing service to colleges and universities for the summer. Starting Monday, May 9, the 101A branch of this route will not serve the University of Toronto at Mississauga campus. All 101A trips will run straight along DundasStreet with no stops between GlengarryRoad and ErinMills Parkway. West of Glengarry, westbound trips serve stops about eight minutes earlier, and eastbound trips serve stops about eight minutes later than currently.

MiWay is also cancelling a trip and revising schedules along this route.

Regular service resumes on Tuesday, September 6.

107 Malton Express

MiWay is reducing service to colleges and universities for the summer. Friday, May 6 was the last day that MiWay operated buses on this route to to the Humber College North campus. Starting Monday, May 9, all northbound trips end and all southbound trips start at Westwood Mall (stop2875, platformG). Passengers to HumberCollege can take route 22Finch instead.

Regular service resumes on Tuesday, September 6.

Also starting Monday, May 9, buses on this route serve new stops on RenforthDrive at ConvairDrive (stop2904 northbound, stop2905 southbound).

MiWay is also ending weekday service earlier and revising schedules on this route.

44 Mississauga Road

Starting Monday, May 9, MiWay operates this route along a shorter path, due to a lack of space at the Westdale Mall bus bays caused by changes to routes 4 and 38. All southbound trips will end and all northbound trips will start at the University of Toronto at Mississauga campus (stop0490).

Route 44 buses will no longer serve any stops on MississaugaRoad south of the campus, DundasStreet, GlengarryRoad, or Cedarglen Gate. Passengers using these stops can transfer to or from the 1C branch of route 1Dundas or the main branch of 101DundasExpress.

MiWay is also increasing and decreasing the hours of service and increasing the service frequency along this route.

29 Park Royal - Homelands

Starting Monday, May 9, MiWay operates this route on a revised path, serving both Sheridan Homelands andErin Mills Transitway station daily. The new routing replaces part of the cancelled route 31 Folkway-Homelands.

MiWay buses will no longer serve any stops on CreditValley Road between GlenErin Drive and Erin Mills Parkway, apart from limited, peak-only service on route 67StreetsvilleGO. Passengers using these stops may need to walk as much as 700metres further to the next remaining stop.

Route 29 will no longer serve any stops

  • on ErinMills Parkway north of LincolnGreen Way
  • on SouthMillway south of TheCollegeway
  • on Glen Erin Drive north of The Collegeway
  • or within the ErinMills TownCentre complex.

Passengers using these stops can take routes 13GlenErin or 48ErinMills instead.

A single route variant will be operated all week, signed 29ParkRoyal-Homelands. Northbound buses departing ClarksonGO (stop0100, platform9) take the current weekend (29B) routing up to GlenErin Drive at TheCollegeway. They then proceed

eastward along The Collegeway;
northward along SouthMillway;
northward through the SouthCommon terminal, stopping at platformG (stop3199);
eastward along Burnhamthorpe Road;
northward along Erin Mills Parkway; and
westward into ErinMills Transitway station;

ending their trips at platform3 (stop 1792).

Southbound buses loop through the layover area at ErinMills station and reverse the northbound routing, stopping at platformI (stop4008) at SouthCommon and at platform9 (stop4508) at Clarkson. They then take the current InverhouseDrive loop before starting their northbound trips.

MiWay is also ending Saturday service later, decreasing weekend service frequency, and revising schedules on this route.

For details on the service frequency decreases for passengers with no more access to route 29, see:

4 Sherway Gardens

Saturday, May7 was the last day that eastbound buses bypassing HuronPark served stop 3168 on MavisRoad at PaisleyBoulevard. The stop is being removed from this route variant so that buses can safely merge into the left turn lane. Buses turning right into HuronPark continue to serve this stop.

MiWay is also adding a school trip and revising schedules on this route.

67 Streetsville GO

Friday, May 6 was the last day that westbound buses on this route served stop1762, on ErinMills Parkway at ThomasStreet, or stop0293, on ErinMills south of BanfieldRoad.

Stop1762 is being removed because of the tight merge needed to serve it, while stop0293 is a relic of when the route couldn’t serve stop 0299, about 70metres to the north, because of the left turn it used to make from McFarrenBoulevard onto ErinMills.
