Eglinton Crosstown LRT:
Tunnel machines reach Yonge Street

eglinton crosstown logo.pngMetrolinx contractors have now completed tunneling on the western segment of the 10-kilometre (6.2-mile) underground tunnel of the Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit line.

This Tuesday, May 10, tunnel-boring machines, Dennis and Lea, boring the western-segment tunnels, arrived at Yonge Street. They’ve burrowed 6,419 metres (21,059 feet) from where they started at Black Creek Drive in spring 2013. Each machine installed 25,647 precast concrete tunnel segments, which formed 4,279 rings.
