The TTC is closing the Bay streetcar tunnel as crews move a transformer early Sunday morning.
(We have searched the City of Toronto, TTC and Toronto Hydro web pages to learn more about this project, but have not successfully found more information about the move.)
The TTC is detouring streetcars and buses operating along these routes, while the tunnel is closed:
Shuttle buses replace streetcars between Spadina / Queens Quay Loop and King Station.
Note that streetcars serving the 509 Harbourfront route operate to and from Fleet Loop, instead of Exhibition Loop, as this map indicates.
The project to move the transformer continues for the next two weekends, requiring the TTC to detour transit services early Sunday, June 19 and June 26.
509 Harbourfront
From 2 until 7 a.m. Sunday, June 12, eastbound streetcars operate along their regular route to Queens Quay West east of Lower Spadina Avenue, then detour:
northward into Queens Quay / Spadina Loop,
ending their trips.Eastbound cars skip their regular stops
- on Queens Quay West at Rees and York Streets and
- at Queens Quay and Union Stations.
Shuttle buses replace the cars east of Lower Spadina Avenue. Eastbound streetcar passengers may transfer to eastbound buses on Queens Quay West east of Lower Spadina Avenue.
Westbound cars start their trips in Queens Quay / Spadina Loop, then proceed:
southward along Lower Spadina Avenue to Queens Quay West,
resuming their regular route westward along Queens Quay West.Westbound cars skip their regular stops
- at Union and Queens Quay Stations,
- west of York and Rees Streets.
317 / 509 Harbourfront shuttle bus
From 2 until 7 a.m. Sunday, June 12, shuttle buses replace streetcars operating along the 317 Spadina and 509 Harbourfront routes east of Spadina / Queens Quay Loop.
Eastbound buses start their trips on Dan Leckie Way south of Lake Shore Boulevard West, then proceed:
eastward along Lake Shore West;
southward along Lower Spadina Avenue;
eastward along Queens Quay West,
northward along Bay Street;
eastward along Adelaide Street West; and then
southward along Yonge Street to King Street West (beside King Station),
ending their trips.Eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops
- on Queens Quay West (on the street) east of Lower Spadina Avenue and at at Rees and York Streets,
- on Bay Street north of Queens Quay East, at Lake Shore Boulevard West, across from the Air Canada Centre and at Front, Wellington and King Street East and
- on Yonge Street at King Street West (beside King Station).
Westbound buses start their trips on Yonge Street at King Street West, then proceed:
southward along Yonge;
westward along Wellington Street West;
southward along Bay Street;
westward along Queens Quay West; and then
northward along Dan Leckie Way to Lake Shore Boulevard West,
ending their trips.Westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops
- on Yonge Street at King and Wellington Streets West,
- on Bay Street at Front Street West and Harbour Street,
- on Queens Quay west of York and Rees Streets and
