Luminato Festival shuttle buses
to Hearn Generating Station, June 10 to 26

luminato10-logo-circle.pngThe annual Luminato Festival — “Toronto’s global multi-arts festival dedicated to performance, visual art, music, theatre, dance, magic and more” — takes place tomorrow, Friday, June 10 until Sunday, June 26.

This year, the festival marks its tenth anniversary “with a free and ticketed program of local and international artists delivering adventurous art in adventurous places”. The Hearn Generating Station, the site of many of this year’s events, certainly fills the definition of “an adventurous place”. Since the venue sits remote from downtown beside the lake shore on Unwin Avenue between Cherry Beach and the Leslie Street Spit, Luminato patrons will certainly have an adventure traveling to and from the Hearn to enjoy the festival.

The Hearn is remote from regular transit service — and the TTC is also reorganizing the nearest routes to the Hearn halfway through the event, starting Sunday, June 19.

Festival organizers have arranged for shuttle buses to operate between the Hearn and Union Station during the event. Buses operate every 30 to 45 minutes from a stop in front of Starbucks at Union Station and at the Hearn. They also stop to pick up or drop off passengers on the southeast corner of Cherry and Commissioners Streets. When buses operate from the Hearn to downtown after midnight, they’ll stop at the southeast corner of Front Street West and Bay Street and at Queen and Yonge Streets, so you can access overnight TTC service.

Luminato volunteer attendants will be at the Union and Hearn stops to provide you with an estimate when the next shuttle will be leaving. Attendants will not be available at Cherry and Commissioners Streets — wait in the transit shelter and the bus will stop for you.

The shuttle buses are not accessible and are available only on a first-come, first-served basis. Depending on traffic conditions, the trip from Union Station to the Hearn will take approximately 15-30 minutes. Make sure you plan ahead and allow plenty of time to get to the Hearn before your show starts.
