Ontario continues to expand
GO's Stouffville rail corridor

Last week, the Ontario Government passed another milestone in its project to expand GO Transit rail service along the Stouffville corridor.

Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario have issued a request for qualifications (RFQ) for proponents to design and build the infrastructure to support more regular GO-train and regional express rail (RER) services on the corridor.

It plans to upgrade infrastructure at three GO Stations:

  • Milliken GO Station:
  • relocate the platforms and add canopy enclosures;
  • build new platforms;
  • build passenger access tunnels;
  • install elevators;
  • build a pedestrian connection to Steeles Avenue East;
  • improve the rail crossing of Steeles East, by building an overpass to carry trains across the street; and
  • improve passenger amenities.
  • Agincourt GO Station:
  • build a new second track;
  • relocate the platforms and add canopy enclosures;
  • build new platforms;
  • build passenger access tunnels;
  • install elevators;
  • build passenger waiting areas;
  • relocate the station building; and
  • improve passenger amenities.
  • Unionville GO Station:
  • build a new second track;
  • build a new turning track;
  • relocate the platforms and add canopy enclosures;
  • build new platforms;
  • build passenger access tunnels;
  • install elevators;
  • expand parking; and
  • improve passenger amenities.

Metrolinx also plans to “electrify” parts of the GO rail network, including the Stouffville line) by 2024.

The RFQ is the first step in the process to select a team to deliver the project. Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario will invite teams that qualify to respond to a request for proposals later this summer.
