Metrolinx has again issued slow orders for GO Transit and Union Pearson Express trains to respond to possible rail buckling that may arise from this week’s high temperatures.
Trains during the hottest hours today, from 2 until 6 p.m., must reduce their speed. This may add, on average, 10 minutes to your train trips today.
Long periods of temperatures higher than 30C can cause ‘sun kinks’ in steel rails. These bends in the rail can cause a safety issue if trains pass over them too quickly. The temporary slow order makes sure passengers get home safely.
This GO video explains how heat affects rail services.
