The TTC will not mail the August Metropass to its 53,000 Metropass Discount Plan (MDP) subscribers due to a possible labour disruption at Canada Post. This does not impact organizations and institutions participating in the Volume Incentive Pass (VIP) program.
The TTC advises its MDP customers - adult and senior / student Metropass subscribers who receive their passes in the mail - to buy their August Metropass at a subway station pass- vending machine, collector booth or one of more than 1,500 third-party vendors. Metropasses go on sale starting July 18 at retail outlets, July 21 at pass vending machines in subway stations and July 24 at station collector booths.
Passengers can use debit or credit cards at all TTC subway stations to buy passes.
The TTC will not debit passengers’ bank accounts for pre-authorized MDP payments in August. Instead, on August 1, it will automatically credit all MDP adult subscribers’ accounts $11.75, and senior and student subscribers’ accounts $9.25, for each pass that it would normally mail - that’s the difference between the price you would pay for a MDP Metropass and the cost of a monthly pass if you bought it at a subway station or from an authorized seller.
According to a TTC news release, “With a potential labour disruption at Canada Post still a possibility, mailing the August Metropass posed a risk of passes not reaching TTC customers in time for use next month. The TTC will distribute additional August passes to pass vending machines, station collectors, and authorized fare sellers this month.”
The Metropass Discount Plan allows TTC passengers to sign up for a 12-month period, making pre-authorized payments each month. The TTC then mails the Metropasses to subscribers. The regular price of an adult Metropass is $141.50, and $112 for student/ senior Metropasses. Under the Metropass Discount Plan, adult Metropasses sell for $129.75 each month and senior / student passes sell for $102.75. Effectively, MDP subscribers pay for 11 passes and get a twelfth free.
