Back in January, the TTC started operating subway service one hour earlier Sunday mornings. That was the first time since the TTC opened its first subway in 1954 that Torontonians could ride subway trains earlier than 9 a.m. Sundays.
Over the intervening months, the TTC has gradually adjusted its schedules for buses and streetcar routes operating to and from subway stations so that they started earlier Sundays, too. Starting Sunday, July 31, it’s increasing service most of the remaining routes to match the earlier subway-opening time.
Starting regular bus and streetcar service earlier Sunday mornings means the TTC can also end service earlier along some overnight routes those mornings.
The TTC is also expanding its “ten-minutes-or-better” network to include some of these routes that now have earlier Sunday-morning service. Passengers riding transit vehicles along “ten-minutes-or-better” routes can expect a bus or streetcar to arrive at their stop every ten minutes — or, in many cases, even more frequently — at all times of the week, except overnight.

With the earlier start to regular service Sunday mornings, the TTC is decreasing service by canceling a number of trips along the route. It has not yet announced details of this change.
However, last Sunday, July 24, southbound buses left Village Gate south of Steeles Avenue West at 7:31, 7:43, 7:55, 8:07 and 8:19 a.m. Starting this Sunday, July 31, the first southbound bus along the 7 Bathurst route leaves Village Gate at 7:37 a.m.
300 Bloor - Danforth overnight
With the earlier start to regular service Sunday mornings, the TTC is decreasing service by cancelling trips along the route after about 8 a.m. Sundays.

Decreasing the frequency of service along a route
511 Bathurst
Construction at Bathurst and College Streets has ended, the TTC is restoring streetcar service along the route, starting Sunday, July 31. Construction in Exhibition Loop continues, though, so streetcars operate between Bathurst Station and Fleet Loop only. Shuttle buses continue to replace the cars west of Fleet Loop. The cars resume service to and from Exhibition Loop Sunday, August 14, in time for the Canadian National Exhibition.
Since streetcars carry more passengers than buses can, the TTC is decreasing the frequency of service along the route at many times of the week.
Starting Sunday, July 31, streetcars drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route:
- every 4½ minutes, instead of every 4 minutes 15 seconds, Sundays and holidays from about noon until 7 p.m.;
- every 6 minutes, instead of every 5 minutes, from about 7 until 10 p.m.; and
- every 7 minutes, instead of every 6 minutes, after about 10 p.m.
Starting Tuesday, August 2, the cars serve passengers at stops:
- every 4 minutes 15 seconds, instead of every 3 minutes, Mondays to Fridays during morning rush hours;
- every 5 minutes, instead of every4 minutes 15 seconds, from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.;
- every 4½ minutes, instead of every 3 minutes, during afternoon rush hours;
- every 5½ minutes, instead of every 5 minutes, from about 7 until 10 p.m.; and
- every 6 minutes, instead of every 5 minutes, after about 10 p.m.
Starting Saturday, August 6, the cars serve passengers:
- every 5½ minutes, instead of every 5 minutes, Saturdays from about 8 a.m. until noon;
- every 4 minutes 20 seconds, instead of every 4 minutes, from about noon until 7 p.m.; and
- every 6 minutes, instead of every 5 minutes 20 seconds, after about 7 p.m.
The TTC is also increasing the frequency of service along the route at another time of the week.
Revising the path for buses operating along a route
33 Forest Hill
Metrolinx contractors are working to build the future Eglinton - Crosstown light rail transit line.
Ongoing work near the intersection of Bathurst Street and Eglinton Avenue West — the site of the future Forest Hill Station continues to delay buses and all traffic.
Starting Sunday, July 31, the TTC is detouring buses operating along the route, to reduce delaying passengers.
It’s revising the north-end loop so that buses proceed counterclockwise instead of clockwise. Passengers must cross the street from their regular stop to board the buses.
Construction near Forest Hill Station and the detour continue until further notice.
Southbound buses start their trips on Roselawn Avenue at Chaplin Crescent, then proceed:
southeastward along Chaplin; and then
westward along Eglinton Avenue West to Spadina Road,
resuming their regular route southward along Spadina.Southbound buses skip their regular stops
- on Bathurst Street at Ridge Hill Drive and
- on Eglinton Avenue West east of Old Forest Hill Road and at Gardiner Road.
Instead, southbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops
- on Roselawn Avenue at Chaplin Crescent and
- on Chaplin Crescent across from #340 Chaplin and at Eglinton Avenue West.
Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Spadina Road and Eglinton Avenue West, then detour:
westward along Eglinton West;
northward along Bathurst Street; and then
eastward along Roselawn Avenue to Chaplin Crescent,
ending their trips.Northbound buses skip their regular stops
- on Spadina Road at Eglinton Avenue West and
- on Chaplin Crescent, north of Eglinton Avenue West, beside #340 Chaplin, across from the walkway to Shallmar Apartments and at Roselawn Avenue.
Instead, northbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops
- on Eglinton Avenue West at Vesta Drive, Old Forest Hill Road and Bathurst Street,
- on Bathurst Street at Vesta Drive and Roselawn Avenue and
- on Roselawn Avenue east of Bathurst Street and at Chaplin Crescent.
Adjusting the schedules for transit vehicles operating along routes
506 Carlton
With the end of construction in Roncesvalles Carhouse, streetcars no longer have to back out of the yard onto The Queensway before entering service.
The TTC is adjusting the schedules for streetcars operating along the route to remove the extra time in the schedules that it added in the spring. The extra schedule time compensated for the time that streetcar operators needed for manoeuvring the cars out of the carhouse.
145 Downtown / Humber Bay express
The TTC is adjusting the schedules to to provided a more reliable service construction on Richmond Street.
Starting Tuesday, August 2, eastbound buses leave Kipling Loop at 6:15, 6:45 and 7:15 a.m. Mondays to Fridays.
They leave Royal York Road north of Lake Shore Boulevard West at 7:45 and 8:20 a.m.
505 Dundas

Starting Wednesday, August 3, the last eastbound bus to operate along the route Mondays to Fridays (or, in fact, early Tuesdays to Saturdays) leaves Kennedy Station at 1:55 a.m., instead of 1:25 a.m.
The extra eastbound trip eliminates a gap in the schedule between the end of regular service along the 86 Scarborough route and the start of overnight service along the 334 Eglinton East overnight route at 2:10 a.m.
Making other changes to service along routes
511 Bathurst
Starting Sunday, July 31, the TTC resumes regular streetcar service, instead of temporary streetcar service, along the route. It’s also increasing and decreasing the frequency of service along the route.
300 Bloor - Danforth overnight
Starting Monday, August 1, westbound buses operating after subway service has started pick up passengers at platform 4 in Kipling Station bus terminal. Buses operating along the 192 Airport rocket route also serve this platform.
The buses also serve platform 2 in Kennedy Station. Buses operating along the 20 Cliffside and 113 Danforth route also serve this platform.
The TTC is also decreasing service along the route.
514 Cherry
The TTC is committing to operate at least one low-floor, accessibly Toronto Flexity car along the route every day.
Subject to the ability of Bombardier to meet its schedule for delivering the new cars, the TTC will make the route totally accessible to passengers using wheelchairs and other mobility devices by scheduling only Flexity cars along the route in January, 2017.
334 Eglinton East overnight
Starting Monday, August 1, westbound buses operating after subway service has started pick up passengers at platform 8 in Kennedy Station bus terminal. Buses operating along the 34 Eglinton East route also serve this platform.
Eastbound buses serve platform 4. Buses operating along the 86E Scarborough express and 198 U of T Scarborough rocket routes also serve this platform.
343 Kennedy overnight
Starting Monday, August 1, westbound buses operating after subway service has started pick up passengers at platform 9 in Kennedy Station bus terminal. Buses operating along the 43 Kennedy route also serve this platform.
