Lots of Greek cuisine and other culinary treats, a blues festival, a jazz festival, a folk festival and five farmers’ markets: special events in the Ancaster of Hamilton, Brampton, the Elmira area of Woolwich Township, the Galt area of Cambridge, the Georgetown area of Halton Hills, the Hespeler area of Cambridge, the Humber Bay Shores area of Toronto, Kitchener, Milton, the Lindsay area of Kawartha Lakes, Oakville, Pickering and central Toronto affect transit services this weekend.

Festival of Friends express shuttle

The Hamilton Street Railway is operating express shuttle buses between downtown Hamilton and the Ancaster Fairgrounds.

Friday, August 5: buses leave King Street West, across from the MacNab Terminal at 2 p.m. and every 15 minutes until 10 p.m. Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7: they leave MacNab at noon and every 15 minutes until 10 p.m. Buses operate without stopping until reaching Gate #2 of the Ancaster Fairgrounds.

Friday, August 5: buses leave the fairgrounds across from the midway at 2:40 p.m. and every 15 minutes until 11:45 p.m. Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7: they leave the grounds at 12:40 p.m. and every 15 minutes until 11:45 p.m. Buses operate without stopping until reaching Main Street West across from the MacNab Terminal (beside City Hall).

Around midnight, at the end of the event on all three nights, the HSR operates extra buses from the fairgrounds to accommodate late event-goers.

You’ll have to pay regular HSR fare, but you can present transfer tickets to the driver if you’ve paid your fare on another HSR bus or you can receive transfers from the driver if you plan to continue your trip on another bus.

Brampton


Brampton Farmers Market

Saturday mornings and early afternoons until October 8, the City of Brampton is closing

  • Main Streets North and South between Nelson and Wellington Streets

to accommodate the city’s weekly farmers market.

Brampton Transit is detouring service during the market.

From 5:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, August 6, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Main Street North and Nelson Street, then detour:

westward along Nelson Street West, passing, but not stopping at, the Downtown Transit Terminal,
southward along George Streets North and South; and then

resuming their regular route southward along Main.

resuming their regular route westward along Queen West.

  • on George Street North north of Diplock Lane,
  • on Main Street South at Wellington Street West and
  • on Wellington Street West at George Street South.

Instead, southbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at a temporary stop
