YRT resurfacing Highway 7 East Viva rapidways,
starting September 24

From Saturday, September 24 until Monday, September 26, York Region Transit contractors get ready to resurface the Viva rapidways on Highway 7 East between Town Centre Boulevard / South Town Centre Boulevard and Bayview Avenue.

They’re working at intersections, vivastations and along various sections of the rapidway lanes. Traffic-control measures, including barrels, pylons and flag persons are in place. “Paid-duty” York Regional Police officers may also be present to guide motorists, cyclists and pedestrians through the work zones.

All vivastations and fare equipment continue to operate during the course of this work. Most construction activities occur evenings and overnight, reducing the impact on buses and passengers.

From Tuesday, September 27 until Thursday, October 6, crews resurface the Viva rapidways between Warden and Bayview Avenues.

They’re working overnight from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m., temporarily blocking bike lanes and service to some vivastations. Staff will be available on-street to help direct passengers.

If construction blocks a vivastation:

  • Board Viva buses at temporary curbside stops. Look for signs that read “Board Viva bus here”.
  • You won’t have access to fare machines. Security guards will help you buy or validate fares.
  • Buy your fares in advance and give yourself extra travel time.
