New bus by-pass shoulders for Highway 401

The Government of Ontario is adding bus by-pass shoulders to parts of Highway 401 to improve service and reliability for GO Transit buses.

By the end of October, Ministry of Transportation contractors will install eastbound by-pass shoulders beside the freeway between Halton Region Road 25 in Milton and Highway 407. They will remain in place until the ministry and its contractors finish a project to expand the highway, including new high occupancy vehicle (or “HOV”) lanes in both directions.

The new bus lanes improve service for eastbound commuters traveling from Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo, Guelph and Milton to Brampton, Mississauga and Toronto along these GO bus routes:

  • 25 Waterloo / Mississauga;
  • 29 Guelph / Mississauga;
  • 30 Kitchener / Bramalea express; and
  • 48 Guelph / York U.
