Baitul Islam mosque community events:
YRT detours, October 3 to 31



The City of Vaughan is closing:

  • Ahmadiyya Avenue beside the Baitul Islam mosque, west of Jane Street and
  • Mosque Gate between Teston Road and Ahmadiyya Avenue

to accommodate a number of community events.

The mosque is spiritual home to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada community, which is celebrating its 50th year in Canada this month. The caliph, His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, will help mark the anniversary during a public reception and ceremony at the mosque Monday, October 3.

The City is closing the street from noon until 10 p.m. Monday, October 3 and at various times from Wednedsday, October 5 until Monday, October 31 during the Ahmadiyya Muslim Annual Conference. It’s closing the streets from 7 until 10 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays, and from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. Fridays to Sundays.

York Region Transit is detouring buses operating along this route, while the street is closed:

  • 20 Jane.

From noon until 10 p.m. Monday, October 3 and at various times from Wednesday, October 5 until Monday, **southbound buses start their trips on Jane Street south of Teston Road, then proceed:

along their regular route southward along Jane.

Southbound buses skip their regular stop

  • on Mosque Gate at Teston Road.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Jane Street and Brandon Gate Drive, then detour:

eastward along Brandon Gate;
north- and eastward along Melville Avenue;
northward on Cranston Park Avenue;
westward along Teston Road; and then
southward along Jane Street to just south of Teston,
ending their trips.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Jane Street at Brandon Gate Drive and across from Ahmadiyya Avenue,
  • on Ahmadiyya Avenue west of Tahir Street and at Mosque Gate and
  • on Mosque Gate at Teston Road.

Instead, northbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Brandon Gate Drive east of Jane Street and at Melville Avenue,
  • on Melville Avenue at Cranston Park Avenue.

The streets are closed and YRT is detouring buses:

  • Mondays to Thursdays from 7 until 10 p.m.; and
  • Fridays to Sundays from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m.
