Neville Park Loop construction:
TTC detours start October 9

Starting Sunday, October 9, the TTC is repairing the streetcar tracks in

  • Neville Park Loop and on
  • Queen Street East between Nursewood Road and Neville Park Loop.

It’s detouring buses operating along this route, while the loop is closed:

  • 143 Downtown / Beach express.

It’s also detouring streetcars operating along these routes:

  • 301 Queen overnight; and
  • 501 Queen.

Shuttle buses replace streetcars east of Kingston Road. Since the TTC has not yet equipped all buses with PRESTO fare-card devices, be sure to carry tickets, tokens or cash to pay your fare when you board.

Construction in Neville Park Loop and the detours continue until November 20.

During this project, TTC crews are:

  • rebuilding the streetcar tracks in Neville Park Loop;
  • replacing the rail at the eastbound stop on Queen Street East at Neville Park Boulevard;
  • removing the concrete and old streetcar track;
  • replacing the concrete and installing new track; and
  • restoring the road and sidewalks, if necessary.

Before they start working on the project, crews mark the sidewalks and curbs they intend to replaced and the location of underground utilities, such as gas, water and cable.

Expect dust, noise, vibration and other inconveniences, while work proceeds. The first few days of a project are the most disruptive, while crews break and remove concrete in the streetcar track areas. They’ll stop breaking concrete by 11 p.m. each day.

While the crews rebuild the tracks, they may work some late evenings or overnight to:

  • move rail into position;
  • install rail; and
  • weld or grind rail welding / grinding.

After-hours work supports daytime construction and helps the TTC complete the project as quickly as possible.

The City of Toronto is adjusting traffic and parking regulations in the work zone. It’s

  • closing Queen Street East between Nursewood Road and Neville Park Loop to all eastbound traffic;
  • restricting westbound traffic to just one lane between Neville Park Loop and Nursewood Road;
  • prohibiting eastbound traffic from turning right onto Nursewood Road and Neville Park Boulevard or into the R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant;
  • allowing westbound traffic to turn left onto Nursewood Road and Neville Park Boulevard or into the R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant from the single westbound lane on the north side of Queen East;
  • allowing crews to temporarily block westbound traffic to accommodate certain work activities or to allow them to safely move construction materials.
  • prohibiting parking in the work zone.
