Dundas East / Parliament overhead wiring upgrades:
TTC detours, early November 1 to 4

Early mornings from tomorrow, Tuesday, November 1 until Friday, November 4, TTC crews are installing new overhead streetcar wiring at the intersection of:

  • Dundas Street East with Parliament Street.

From 12:01 until 5 a.m. each day, crews are using from two to three overhead trucks with hydraulic equipment to carry out this work. Expect to hear beeping from the trucks as they back up and see bright lights from the equipment every night.

Upgrading the overhead is necessary to make sure the TTC can operate its new, low-floor, accessible Toronto Flexity streetcars. Over the past few years, electrical crews have been upgrading the overhead wire system for most streetcar routes in the city.

The TTC is detouring streetcars operating along this route, while crews work on the wiring:

Shuttle buses replace the cars, operating between Broadview and University Avenues.

(Note that the map incorrectly identifies “Elm Street” as intersecting with Dundas Street West. The TTC probably means “Chestnut Street”.)

(Note that the TTC has not confirmed looping arrangements at the west end of the shuttle-bus route. We’ve based this section of the post on information that the TTC has provided during other events when it’s operated buses along this section of the route. Note that the TTC map misidentifies Chestnut Street as “Elm” Street.)
