The TTC is closing the 3 Scarborough rapid transit line tomorrow, Saturday, November 19. While the line is closed, TTC crews are conducting necessary track and signal work on the line to make the service more reliable.
Track staff are also grinding to smooth the rail. The TTC says it’s “committed to reducing noise from the SRT for our neighbours, and to improving the quality of the ride for our customers. Grinding the rails will help accomplish these two objectives.”
Buses replace service along the entire line between McCowan and Kennedy stations, stopping at all stations along the way. You can also exit the buses at other transit stops if you ask the drivers to stop. McCowan, Midland and Ellesmere stations are closed. Collector booths at all other Line 3 stations remain open so you can buy TTC fares.
PRESTO fare-card users must board by the front door and pay their fares with cash, since the TTC has not yet equipped all buses with PRESTO devices.
Wheel-Trans vehicles will be available if you need accessible transit between Scarborough Centre and McCowan stations.
Regular service resumes Sunday, November 20.
Shuttle-bus alternatives
One way that you can reduce the impact of the closure is by planning ahead, leaving earlier than usually and giving yourself more time to get to where you’re going.
Although shuttle buses replacing the RT service will be frequent, they may also be crowded.
Regular TTC buses provide less frequent, less direct, but, perhaps, less stressful alternatives.
Consider boarding buses operating along these routes, instead of the shuttles:
- 9 Bellamy between Scarborough Centre and Warden Stations.
- 16 McCowan between Scarborough and Warden Stations.
- 21 Brimley between Scarborough Centre and Kennedy Stations.
- 43B Kennedy via Progress between Scarborough Centre and Kennedy Stations.
- 57 Midland between Midland and Kennedy Stations.
The TTC has closed Line 3 on just one previous occasion this year: Saturday, June 25 and Sunday, June 26.
It will close the entire line one more time this year: next Saturday, November 26.
