Richmond construction ends November 30;
TTC express buses resume regular routes

The City of Toronto has closed

  • Richmond Street East between Church and Yonge Streets; and
  • Richmond Street West between York and Yonge Streets

during a major construction project (.pdf) since Monday, June 20.

While the street was closed, City contractors have:

  • replaced sections of the water-main between Yonge and Bay Streets and connected the new main to other water-mains;
  • partially rebuilt curbs and sidewalks, including “streetscaping”; and
  • partially rebuilt the roadway.

TTC crews have also:

  • removed the old streetcar tracks and rebuilt the westbound tracks between Church and York Streets.

(Since Richmond is one-way westbound for traffic, the eastbound tracks were no longer necessary. However, the TTC continues to use the westbound tracks for detouring streetcars during special events, construction or emergencies.)

The TTC has detoured buses operating along these routes during the project:

  • 141 Downtown / Mt Pleasant express;
  • 142 Downtown / Avenue Rd express;
  • 143 Downtown / Beach express;
  • 144 Downtown / Don Valley express; and
  • 145 Downtown / Humber Bay express.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 30, the City reopens all lanes of Richmond Streets East and West between Church and York Streets to traffic and the buses resume regular service along the street.
