Eglinton - Crosstown LRT -- Yonge / Eglinton:
TTC detours start December 14

Uodate — Tuesday, December 13, 3:47 p.m.: Metrolinx and the TTC has postponed these changes by one week, to next Wednesday, December 19.

eglinton crosstown logo.pngMetrolinx contractors are working to build the future Eglinton - Crosstown light rail transit line.

Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, December 14, the contractors are setting up work areas near Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue. They’re relocating or replacing the underground utilities, including storm and sanitary sewers, water mains, hydro ducts and telecommunications, in a series of stages near the future Eglinton Station.

The TTC is rerouting buses and relocating bus stops during the work.

Crews will establish construction zones along Eglinton Avenue, Yonge Street, Duplex Avenue, Orchard View Boulevard, Roehampton Avenue and Redpath Avenue at various stages of the project, and they’ll block traffic lanes on Yonge and Eglinton Avenue to work. But, they’ll also maintain at least one lane in each direction east-west along Eglinton and north-south along Yonge.

The City of Toronto is prohibiting most turns at the intersection. However, motorists may turn right during some stages of the project. The contractors will maintain access to all businesses throughout the stages.

Crews are mainly placing construction zones on the west side of Yonge Street north of Eglinton Avenue West and on the north side of Eglinton Avenue East east of Yonge. They’ll block the crosswalk on the north side of the intersection. Pedestrians crossing east-west across Yonge Street from the south side of Eglinton Avenue.

When construction crews use utility access portals (or “manholes”) to reroute hydro cables, they’ll also set up smaller, temporary construction zones on Duplex Avenue, Orchard View Boulevard, Roehampton Avenue and Redpath Avenue.

This stage of the project to relocate the utilities should continue for one to two months or until about Friday, February 24, 2017. Crews mostly work from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. seven days a week, but occasionally may work overnight. Residents and business operators near the construction sites should expect noise from excavators, bobcats and other construction equipment.
