Tunnel maintenance and bridge inspection
in Harbourfront: TTC detours, February 10 to 13



Starting tonight, Friday, February 10, TTC crews are maintaining the streetcar tunnel under Bay Street. They continue their various activities through the weekend.

Tonight only, City of Toronto crews are inspecting the overhead portion of the Frederick G. Gardiner Expressway at Lower Spadina Avenue.

Both projects affect TTC streetcar services along these routes in the Harbourfront area:

  • 317 Spadina overnight;
  • 509 Harbourfront; and
  • 510 Spadina.

The TTC is operating shuttle buses to replace streetcars along the entire 509 Harbourfront route. It also operates shuttle buses to replace streetcars along parts of the 317 Spadina overnight and 510 Spadina routes.

Regular streetcar service resumes 5 a.m. February 13.

Starting at 9 p.m. tonight, the City is inspecting the underside of the expressway at Lower Spadina Avenue. The City has asked the TTC to power off the streetcar overhead wiring, so that City crews can work.


Until 9 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, February 11, TTC track crews are testing new crane equipment in the tunnel.


Until 9 p.m. Sunday, February 12, TTC crews are maintaining the drainage system in Queens Quay Station. They’ll park two vacuum trucks on Bay Street near the stairs into the station. They’ll vacuum out drainage obstructions at the station.


From 9 p.m. Saturday, February 11 until 5 a.m. Sunday, February 12 and from 9 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday, February 13, overhead crews are replacing the streetcar contact wire in the tunnel. During this work, you may hear beeping when trucks are backing up.


509 Harbourfront

From 5 a.m. Friday, February 10 until 5 a.m. Monday, February 13, buses replace streetcars along the entire route.

Eastbound buses start their trips in Princes’ Gate Loop, then proceed:

northward along Canada Boulevard;
eastward along Manitoba Drive and Fleet Street;
southward along Fort York Boulevard;
eastward along Lake Shore Boulevard West;
southward along Bathurst Street;
eastward along Queens Quay West;
northward along Bay Street;
eastward along Adelaide Street West;
southward along Yonge Street to King Street West,
ending their trips.

Eastbound streetcars skip their regular stops

  • in Fleet Loop and
  • in Queens Quay and Union streetcar stations.

Eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops

  • in Princes’ Gate Loop,
  • on Manitoba Drive at Strachan Avenue,
  • on Fleet Street at Fort York Boulevard,
  • on Queens Quay West east of Bathurst Street, Dan Leckie Way and Lower Spadina Avenue and at Rees and York Streets,
  • on Bay Street north of Queens Quay West and Lake Shore Boulevard West, across from the Air Canada Centre and at Front, Wellington and King Street West and
  • on Yonge Street at King Street West.

Westbound buses start their trips on Yonge Street at King Street West, then proceed:

southward along Yonge;
westward along Wellington Street West;
southward along Bay Street;
westward along Queens Quay West;
northward along Bathurst Street;
westward along Strachan Avenue and Manitoba Drive;
southward along Canada Boulevard; and then
eastward into Princes’ Gate Loop,
ending their trips.

Westbound streetcars skip their regular stops

  • in Union and Queens Quay streetcar stations and
  • in Fleet Loop.

Westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops

  • on Yonge Street at King and Wellington Streets West;
  • on Bay Street at Front Street West and south of Harbour Street,
  • on Queens Quay West west of York and Rees Streets, Lower Spadina Avenue and Dan Leckie Way,
  • on Bathurst Street north of Queens Quay West,
  • on Fleet Street west of Bathurst and Bastion Streets and Fort York Boulevard,
  • on Manitoba Drive west of Strachan Avenue and
  • in Princes’ Gate Loop.

The TTC operates streetcars along two different routings this weekend:

After 9 p.m. Friday, February 10, southbound streetcars operate along their regular route to Spadina Avenue and Adelaide Street West, then detour:

eastward along Adelaide West; and then
southward along Charlotte Street to Oxley Street,
ending their trips.

Southbound streetcars skip their regular stops

  • on Spadina Avenue at King and Front Streets West,
  • on Lower Spadina Avenue at Fort York Boulevard and Queens Quay West,
  • on Queens Quay West east of Lower Spadina Avenue and at Rees and York Streets and
  • in Queens Quay and Union streetcar stations.

Shuttle buses replace the cars south of King Street West. Southbound streetcar passengers may transfer to south- and eastbound buses on Charlotte Street at Oxley Street.

Northbound cars start their trips on Charlotte Street at Oxley Street, then proceed:

southward along Charlotte; and then
eastward along King Street West to Spadina Avenue,
resuming their regular route northward along Spadina.

Northbound streetcars skip their regular stops

  • in Union and Queens Quay streetcar stations,
  • on Queens Quay West west of York and Rees Streets,
  • on Lower Spadina Avenue at Lake Shore Boulevard West and Bremner Boulevard and
  • on Spadina Avenue north of Front Street West.

All day Saturday, February 11 and Sunday, February 12 and before 5 a.m. Monday, February 13, southbound streetcars operate along their regular route to Queens Quay West across from Queens Quay / Spadina Loop, then proceed:

northward into the loop,
ending their trips.

Southbound streetcars skip their regular stops

  • on Queens Quay West at Rees and York Streets and
  • in Queens Quay and Union streetcar stations.

Shuttle buses replace the cars east of Queens Quay / Spadina Loop. Southbound streetcar passengers may transfer to eastbound buses on Queens Quay West east of Lower Spadina Avenue.

Northbound cars start their trips in Queens Quay / Spadina Loop, then proceed:

along their regular route northward along Lower Spadina Avenue.

Northbound streetcars skip their regular stops

  • on Spadina Avenue at King and Front Streets West,
  • on Lower Spadina Avenue at Fort York Boulevard and Queens Quay West,
  • on Queens Quay West east of Lower Spadina Avenue and at Rees and York Streets and
  • in Queens Quay and Union streetcar stations.

southward along Yonge Street to King Street West,
ending their trips.

Eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops

  • in Queens Quay / Spadina Loop,
  • on Queens Quay West at Rees and York Streets,
  • on Bay Street north of Queens Quay West and Lake Shore Boulevard West, across from the Air Canada Centre and at Front, Wellington and King Street West and
