YRT reviews 2017 service plans

This week, York Region Transit hosts its annual series of public information centres to get public feedback on its service plans for 2018.

It hosted a similar series last winter and spring to reveal its 2017 plans. The open-house events resulted in a number of changes to YRT services, some of which it’s already implemented and others that will occur later this year.

YRT’s 2017 service plan affects (or has already affected) these routes: 9 Ninth Line; 22A King City; 23 Thornhill Woods; 31 Aurora North; 33 Wellington; 50 Queensway; 51 Keswick local; 58 Mount Albert; 222 Aurora GO shuttle; 222 Newmarket - Aurora GO shuttle; 244 Beaver Creek shuttle; 421 Newmarket high school special; 427 Sacred Heart high school special; 509 Stouffville community bus, Aurora - Oak Ridges dial-a-ride.

It’s revising services in:

Town of Aurora

Since few passengers are riding buses operating along the 222 Newmarket - Aurora GO shuttle route in the Town of Newmarket, YRT is cancelling service along the route on Leslie Street between 404 Town Centre Terminal and Stonehaven Avenue. It’s also extending the route to William Graham Drive.

Monday-to-Friday mornings, starting this June, buses start their trips on William Graham Drive south of St. John’s Sideroad East, then proceed:

south- and eastward along William Graham; and then
northward along Leslie Street to Stonehaven Avenue,
resuming the current route 222 westward along Stonehaven.

Monday-to-Friday afternoons, the buses reverse the morning route.

This change also affects service in Newmarket.

31 Aurora North

YRT has converted all service after 7 p.m. Mondays to Fridays to dial-a-ride service. It expanded the boundaries of the Aurora - Oak Ridges Dial-a-Ride area to include stops that buses operating along the 31 Aurora North route usually serve.

Starting Monday, January 9, the last northbound bus Mondays to Fridays leaves Aurora GO Station at 6:36 p.m. It returns to the station at 7:06 p.m.

Aurora - Oak Ridges dial-a-ride

Starting Monday, January 9, YRT expanded the boundary of the Aurora and Oak Ridges Dial-a-Ride area Monday-to-Friday evenings to include the area that buses operaring along the 31 Aurora North serve before 7 p.m.

DAR_OakRidges_Aurora.jpg

YRT offers the Aurora and Oak Ridges Dial-a-Ride service Mondays to Fridays from 9:30 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. and from 6:30 until 10:45 p.m. and Saturdays from 7 a.m. until 6:45 p.m.

The dial-a-ride service lets you travel directly between YRT or Viva stops within the geographic area. This means Dial-a-Ride vehicles for Routes 31, 32 and 84 may operate freely within the area to get you to any YRT/Viva stop instead of following the fixed route.
