Starting Monday, March 27, TTC crews are upgrading the streetcar overhead infrastructure and installing new trolley wire on:
- Kingston Road between Bingham Loop (at Victoria Park Avenue) and Woodbine Loop (at Queen Street East).
By upgrading the overhead wiring, the TTC is getting ready to operate its new accessible Toronto Flexity streetcars along Kingston Road. Over the past few years, electrical crews have been upgrading the overhead wire system along most streetcar routes in the city.
To complete this overhead work safely and with less impact on traffic, crews work overnight between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. On average, they’ll use two to four overhead trucks with hydraulic equipment. You can expect to hear beeping when the trucks are backing up or notice bright equipment lights each night.
The work restricts traffic to just the curb lanes in each direction through the work zone.
Since the TTC operates buses during these hours, the work won’t affect regular transit service.
The project continues for three weeks, or until April 13:
- Week of March 27: Crews install new trolley wire in both directions.
- Week of April 3: Crews remove old trolley wire.
- Week of April 10: Crews bring the new trolley wire to proper tension.
