Waterloo Region residents can view ION vehicle
during community open house, April 8

You can view and tour the first ION light rail transit vehicle during a community open house this Saturday, April 8. The event take places in the Region of Waterloo’s Operations, Maintenance and Storage Facility at 518 Dutton Drive in Waterloo, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Staff from the region’s ION project, the vehicle’s manufacturer, Bombardier, and the project contractors, GrandLinq, are available during the event to answer questions as you tour the train.

The first ION vehicle arrived last month from Bombardier’s Thunder Bay plant. This Saturday, you can see the vehicle up close and sit on board.

Bombardier and GrandLinq staff are performing a wide-range of tests on the vehicle before testing it on the track. The track testing phase likely starts this spring along the ION test track, which extends from the Northfield ION stop to north of the intersection of Caroline and Erb Streets in Waterloo.

Bombardier has committed to delivering the remaining 13 ION trains to Waterloo Region by the end of 2017. It will ship the second ION LRT vehicle from its Kingston plant in June or July.

Residents have another chance to see the ION vehicle during Doors Open in September.
