Starting Tuesday, April 11, TTC crews are pruning branches inside the streetcar loop on Kipling Avenue just north of Lake Shore Boulevard West, as part of the grounds-maintenance program.

The TTC’s arborist recently inspected the area and identified several smaller trees growing into the chain-link fence along the west side of the loop, creating weak points in the trees. For safety, the crews are removing these trees to eliminate the risk of them falling over in the future.

The arborist also identified three larger trees on the west side of the loop for the crews to remove for the same reason. The crews will return at a later date to remove these larger trees, after the TTC has received permits from the City of Toronto. If the City approves the permits, the TTC will plant three new trees in the loop to replace these trees.

TTC grounds maintenance crews will remove the smaller trees on the west side of the loop behind 5, 7 and 9 Nineteenth Street. This work can take from a few days to one week. They will also remove the chain-link fence along the west side of the loop and replace it with new chain-link.

Crews work only on TTC property from five to seven working days. If necessary, they will barricade the backyards of neighbouring properties with a snow fence as they remove the old chain-link fence.
