DRT, GO detours start April 10



Update — Monday, October 16, 6:37 p.m.: Construction on Simcoe Street North has ended and buses resume regular service tomorrow, Tuesday, October 17.


Starting Monday, April 10, the Region of Durham and the City of Oshawa are closing:

  • Simcoe Street North (Regional Road 2) between Robert Street and Rossland Road

during a regional construction project to:

  • replace the water-mains, sanitary sewers and storm sewers;
  • rebuild the roadway; and
  • improve the concrete sidewalk and traffic signals.

Durham Region Transit is detouring buses operating along this route, while the street is closed:

Construction on Simcoe Street North and the detours continue until October 31.

From Monday, April 10 until Tuesday, October 31, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Simcoe Street North and Robert Street, then detour:

eastward along Robert;
southward along Mary Street North; and then
westward along Rossland Road East to Simcoe North,
resuming their regular route southward along Simcoe.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Simcoe Street North at Switzer Drive, across from Darcy Street and at Jones Avenue.

Instead, southbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Robert Street at Mary Street North and
  • on Mary Street North at Darcy Street.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Simcoe Street North and Hillcroft Street, then detour:

eastward along Hillcroft;
northward along Mary Street North; and then
westward along Robert Street to Simcoe North,
resuming their regular route northward along Simcoe.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Simcoe Street North at Greta Street, north of Rossland Road East and at Darcy and Robert Streets.

Instead, northbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops

  • on Mary Street North at Rossland Road East and Darcy and Robert Streets.

eastward along Robert;
southward along Mary Street North; and then
westward along Rossland Road East to Simcoe North,

Southbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at all regular stops.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route to Simcoe Street North and Hillcroft Street, then detour:

eastward along Hillcroft;
