Starting this month, the Region of Peel is installing about 12 kilometres of water and sanitary pipes by tunnelling, trenchless technology and open-cut trenching under various streets in the Mississauga City Centre area as part of the Burnhamthorpe water project.
The Region is installing new water services under:
- Burnhamthorpe Road West and East between Elora Drive / Grand Park Drive and Cawthra Road;
- Duke of York Boulevard between Rathburn Road West and Webb Drive;
- Hurontario Street between Rathburn and Burnhamthorpe Roads;
- Kariya Gate and Kariya Drive between City Centre Drive and Webb Drive; and
- Square One Drive between Duke of York Boulevard and Hurontario Street.
Some of parts of the Burnhamthorpe water project also help Metrolinx prepare for its upcoming project to build the Hurontario light rail transit line along Hurontario, Burnhamthorpe West, Duke of York and Rathburn West.
As part of this project, crews will also rebuild structures that divert Cooksville Creek under:
- Elm Drive West between Kariya Drive and Hurontario Street; and
- Grand Park Drive between Burnhamthorpe Road West and Webb Drive;
- Kariya Gate and Kariya Drive between City Centre Drive and Webb Drive;
- Mississauga Valley Boulevard between Arista Way and Elm Drive East; and
- Webb Drive between Grand Park and Kariya Drives.
Here’s the tentative schedule for this work:
- 2017 to 2018: Hurontario, Kariya Drive (north of Webb), Kariya Gate, Square One.
- 2018 to 2019: Elm West, Grand Park, Kariya Drive (south of Webb), Mississauga Valley, Webb.
- 2018 to 2021: Burnhamthorpe, Duke of York.
