The TTC has now received enough Toronto Flexity low-floor accessible streetcars from their manufacturer, Bombardier, to assign only Flexity cars to the 514 Cherry route, starting Sunday, May 7.

514 Cherry joins 509 Harbourfront and 510 Spadina on the list of streetcar routes whose vehicles are accessible for people using wheelchairs or mobility devices or have other mobility restrictions.

By only operating the newest low-floor streetcars along the 514 Cherry route, the TTC, hopefully, ends a problem with noise emanating from older Canadian light rail vehicle (CLRV) cars operating through the switch at King Street East and Sumach Street. Those issues resulted in the TTC diverting all streetcars off Sumach and Cherry Streets every evening after about 10 p.m. and mornings before 7 a.m. Mondays to Fridays and before 10 a.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

The TTC has required passengers traveling to and from the Distillery District to transfer off the cars and board Wheel-Trans shuttle buses late evenings and early mornings since last August. The Wheel-Trans shuttle service ends Saturday, May 6.
