Starting Wednesday, May 10, TTC crews are conducting essential concrete repairs to various sections of the streetcar tracks on Lake Shore Boulevard West. This work returns the areas to a state of good repair for all road users. Track staff repair one work area at a time, starting from the east moving west.
At each site, crews break and chip the concrete. They’ll work at each site for a few days in this sequence:
- beside #2821 Lake Shore Boulevard West (near Third Street);
- beside #3120 Lake Shore Boulevard West (near Fifteenth Street);
- beside #3180 Lake Shore Boulevard West (near Nineteenth Street);
- beside #3197 Lake Shore Boulevard West (near Twentieth Street);
- beside #3621 Lake Shore Boulevard West (near Thirty-Fifth Street);
- beside #3645 Lake Shore Boulevard West (near Thirty-Sixth Street);
- beside #3783 Lake Shore Boulevard West (near Fortieth Street); and
- beside #3801 Lake Shore Boulevard West (near Fortieth Street).
Crews occupy the streetcar track allowance (centre lane) to conduct the repairs. Traffic continues to flow in both directions through the work areas. The City of Toronto may temporarily restrict turns to help create a safe work zone for the crew. Motorists can continue to park on the street near the work zone.
The crews establish each work zone around 7 a.m. on the first day and remain in place until they finish working at each site. At each site they mill and break the old concrete and place new concrete. They mostly remove the concrete from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. each day. After they finish removing the old concrete they’ll place the new concrete and leave it to cure overnight.
Temporary barriers block traffic from the streetcar tracks / centre lanes for about 24 hours after the crews have installed the new concrete. After 24 hours, the crews remove the barriers and motorists can again drive over the area.
The TTC continues to operate buses, instead of streetcars along the 301 Queen overnight and 501 Queen routes due to construction elsewhere on Lake Shore Boulevard West and on The Queensway and Queen Streets West and East.
Concrete repairs on Lake Shore Boulevard West continue for three weeks, or until June 2.
