Update — Wednesday, May 31, 7:12 a.m.: The City is again closing the intersection and the HSR is detouring buses from 9 p.m. Thursday, June 1 until 7 p.m. Friday, June 2.
The City of Hamilton is closing:
- the intersection of James Street North with Cannon Street
from 9 p.m. Friday, May 19 until 7 a.m. Saturday, May 20,
as crews remove the concrete surface and repave the roadway with asphalt.
The Hamilton Street Railway is detouring buses operating along these routes, while the street is closed:
The City also plans to close the intersection and the HSR to detour buses from 9 p.m. Friday, May 27 until 7 a.m. Saturday, May 28.
2 Barton
From 9 p.m. Friday, May 19 until 7 a.m. Saturday, May 20, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Barton Street East and John Street North, then detour:
southward along John North; and then
westward along Wilson Street to James Street North,
resuming their regular route southward along James North.Inbound buses skip their regular stops
- on Barton Street East at Hughson Street North and
- on James Street North at Colbourne Street, across from Robert Street and south of Cannon Street West.
Instead, inbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops
- on John Street North at Robert Street, Cannon Street East and Wilson Street.
Outbound buses operate along their regular route.
4 Bayfront
From 9 p.m. Friday, May 19 until 7 a.m. Saturday, May 20, inbound buses operate along their regular route to James Street North and Barton Street East, then detour:
eastward along Barton East;
southward along John Street North; and then
westward along Wilson Street to James North,
resuming their regular route southward along James.Inbound buses skip their regular stops
- on James Street North at Colbourne Street, across from Robert Street and south of Cannon Street West.
Instead, inbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops
- on Barton Street East west of John Street North and
- on John Street North at Robert Street, Cannon Street East and Wilson Street.

3 Cannon
From 9 p.m. Friday, May 19 until 7 a.m. Saturday, May 20, inbound buses operate along their regular route to Cannon Street East and John Street North, then detour:
southward along John North; and then
westward along Wilson Street to James Street North,
