Queen West / Shaw track maintenance, starting June 1

Starting Thursday, June 1, TTC crews are conducting preventative and corrective rail maintenance to the streetcar tracks at

  • the intersection of Queen Street West and Shaw Street.

During this project, the crews weld rail components and rail joints, but do not break or remove concrete.

The crews work overnight between 11:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. when traffic volumes are at their lowest and when they can establish a safe work zone can be established. They’ll clear the work zone of traffic-management signs and pylons by 6 a.m. each day. Expect noise while equipment is operating.

Motorists can continue through the intersection although the work may temporarily block some traffic lanes and restrict turns through the work zone.

Since the TTC is operating buses, instead of streetcars, along the 301 Queen overnight and 501 Queen routes, the work does not affect transit services.

Crews maintain the tracks at Queen West / Shaw until June 8.
