Metrolinx improving GO's Lakeshore East line:
Public meetings, June 6, 8 and 15

Metrolinx is completing a transit project assessment process to evaluate expanding and improving GO Transit’s Lakeshore East rail corridor between the Don River and Scarborough GO Station.

This work supports GO’s future regional express rail program and “electrifying” the line. According to Metrolinx, it expects that “By 2025, electric trains will be running every 15 minutes or [better], all day and in both directions, within the most heavily traveled sections of the GO network.”

The Lakeshore East project involves:

  • adding a fourth track between the Don River Bridge and Scarborough GO Station;
  • widening three bridges — at Danforth, Warden and Woodbine Avenues;
  • modifying the underside of the Birchmount Road overpass;
  • modifying Danforth GO Station to improve access;
  • building retaining walls; and
  • extending three culverts — at Scarborough Junction and east of Kennedy Road and Coxwell Avenue.

The Government of Ontario’s transit project assessment process requires transit agencies to invite members of the public to comment on proposals during a 120-day period before they can proceed. After 120 days, Ontario’s Minister of the Environment will review the project for another 30 days, before deciding to approve or refuse the project.

Metrolinx is hosting three public meetings over the next two weeks. During these events, you can learn more about the impact of the proposal on the environment, nearby communities and transportation systems. You can also ask staff questions and provide your input into the environmental assessment report about the plan.

Metrolinx staff have scheduled the meetings:

If you can’t attend the meetings, you can still comment on the proposal.
