TTC continues to replace streetcars with buses
during more Queen West construction

Monday, June 19, City of Toronto contractors start a project to rebuild the sidewalks and install “streetscaping” on

  • Queen Street West between Bathurst Street and Spadina Avenue.

The City is restricting traffic to just one lane in each direction while work proceeds. Due to other construction projects on Lake Shore Boulevard West, The Queensway and Queen Streets West and East, the TTC is already replacing streetcars operating along the 301 Queen overnight and 501 Queen routes with buses operating along two shuttle routes:

  • 301L / 501L Queen / Long Branch — between Neville Park and Long Branch loops; and
  • 301P / 501P Queen / Park Lawn — between Neville Park and Park Lawn loops.

Crews start working on the north side of Queen West at Bathurst and proceed eastward to Spadina. Once they’ve finished working on the north side, they’ll start on the south side of the street from Spadina to Bathurst.

They work from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. They’ll occasionally work after regular business hours and on weekends to shorten the construction timeline and help decrease disrupting the public.

Crews finish most of the project by Saturday, September 2. After the Toronto International Film Festival, crews continue improving the street with streetscaping until November 30. They’re installing:

  • two parkettes just north of Queen West on Denison and Ryerson Avenues;
  • trees;
  • street lighting; and
  • public art.
