Update — Wednesday, July 26, 12:38 p.m.: The Town of Whitby has postponed the construction project until spring 2018. DRT buses continue to detour until September 3.
Starting Monday, June 26, the Region of Durham and the Town of Whitby are closing:
- Rossland Road East (Regional Road 28) between Country Lane and Lakeridge Road
during a project to rebuild and widen the roadway.
(The Region and town are completely closing the street to all traffic west of McQuay Boulevard.)
Durham Region Transit is detouring buses operating along this route, while the street is closed:
- 916 Rossland.
Due to the length of the detour routing, DRT is also adjusting the schedules for buses operating along the route to allow drivers more time to complete round trips.
Construction on Rossland Road West and the DRT detour continue until November 30.

From Monday, June 26 until Thursday, November 30, westbound buses operate along their regular route to Rossland Road West [Whitby] and Cochrane Street, then detour:
southward along Cochrane;
westward along Dundas Street West / Kingston Road East; and then
northward along Audley Road North to Rossland Road East [Ajax],
resuming their regular route westward along Rossland.Westbound buses skip their regular stops
- on Rossland Road West [Whitby] at Cochrane Street, Country Lane and across from McQuay Boulevard,
- on Rossland Road East [Ajax] west of Lakeridge Road North and at Audley Road North.
Instead, westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops
- on Cochrane Street at Valley Court,
- on Dundas Street West across from White Oaks Court,
- on Audley Road North at Rossland Road East [Ajax].
Eastbound buses reverse the westbound detour routing.
Eastbound buses skip their regular stops
- on Rossland Road East [Ajax] west of Lakeridge Road North,
- on Rossland Road West [Whitby] west of McQuay Boulevard, across from Country Lane and at Cochrane Street.
Instead, eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops
- on Dundas Street West east of White Oaks Court and
- on Cochrane Street at Rossland Road West [Whitby].
