DRT revises routes and services, September 4



Labour Day, Monday, September 4, Durham Region Transit improves several Durham Region Transit routes, including more “high-frequency” service in the south region and on-demand service in the north.

DRT dubs six southern routes as “high-frequency”.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along these routes every 30 minutes or better every day:

  • 224 Harwood / Salem;
  • 302 Brock / Baldwin;
  • 915 Taunton; and
  • 916 Rossland.

DRT is increasing the frequency of service along the 910 Campus Connect route from every 30 minutes to every 30 minutes Mondays to Fridays during rush hours. will see weekday peak-period service increase to every 15 minutes from 30 minutes.

DRT is introducing new services in Whitby and Oshawa along the new 408 Garrard and 420 Britannia West routes.

In the north region, the new on-demand services help passengers in Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge Townships connect with transit service. Residents beyond the conventional transit service can connect the urban centres in Uxbridge and Port Perry. And, Brock residents can enjoy new links between Beaverton and Orillia and between Cannington and Lindsay.

Introducing new routes and services


651 Beaverton / Orillia

DRT is introducing new on-demand services for passengers travelling to and from the Townships of Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge.

It’s offering fixed-route, on-demand service from Beaverton to Orillia Thursdays only.

In Beaverton, buses start their trips on Simcoe Street across from Mara Road, then proceed:

eastward along Simcoe;
southward along Osborne Street;
westward along Bay Street;
eastward along Simcoe;
northward along Mara;
eastward along Concession 8 Road;
north- and westward along Highway 12;
northward along West Street South [Orillia];
westward along Mississauga Street West;
southward along Dunlop Street; and then
westward along Colborne Street West to Soldiers Memorial Hospital.

The bus leaves at noon Thursdays. It arrives at the Orillia hospital at 12:45 p.m. A DRT bus operating along the 601 Brock / Uxbridge route arrives on Simcoe across from Mara in Beaverton at 11:52 a.m. so you can connect with the Orillia service. A GO Transit bus operating along the 81 Port Perry / Whitby route arrives on Simcoe across from Mara at 11:53 a.m. so you can connect with the Orillia service.

In Orillia, the bus operates from the hospital, then proceeds:

westward along Colborne Street West;
northward along Volunteer Drive;
eastward along Mississauga Street West;
southward along West Street South;
east- and southward along Highway 12;
westward along Concession 8 Road; and then
southward along Mara Road to Simcoe Street,
ending their trips.

The bus leaves the hospital at 4:15 p.m. It leaves West and Mississauga Streets in downtown Orillia at 4:20 p.m. It ends its trip on Simcoe across from Mara at 5:03 p.m. A DRT bus operating along the 601 Brock / Uxbridge route leaves Simcoe across from Mara at 5:13 p.m., so you can connect from the Orillia service.

You must book your trip the previous day to use the service. Call 1-866-247-0055, Press 3, by 2 p.m. Buses pick up passengers on Simcoe across from Mara in Beaverton and at Soldiers Memorial Hospital and West and Mississauga Streets in Orillia. West and Mississauga is the site of Orillia Transit’s downtown terminal, so you can connect with all OT buses there.

420 Britannia West

DRT is introducing service along this new route between the developing Britannia West neighbourhood and the North Oshawa campuses of Durham College and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT). Buses operate along the new route Mondays to Fridays only during rush hours.

Starting Tuesday, September 5, southbound buses start their trips on Britannia Avenue West at Kentucky Derby Way, then proceed:

eastward along Britannia West;
southward along Simcoe Street North; and then
westward along Commencement Drive to the campus terminal,
ending their trips.

DRT has not yet confirmed stops for the buses operating along the new route, but southbound buses likely drop off or pick up passengers at current DRT stops

  • on Simcoe Street North south of Founders Way and
  • on Commencement Drive at Durham College / University of Ontario Insitute of Technology.

DRT buses operating along the 310 Winchester, 416 Kedron, 417 Conlin and 950 Reach / Simcoe North routes all drop off or pick up passengers at all these stops. Buses operating along the401 Simcoe, 910 Campus Connect and 915 Taunton routes also serve the stop at Durham College / UOIT.

Southbound buses start their trips on Britannia Avenue West east of Kentucky Derby Way at 5:41 and 6:11 a.m., 6:31 a.m. and every 30 minutes until 7:31 a.m., 4:20 p.m. and every 30 minutes until 7:10 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. They end their trips on the campuses at 5:47 and 6:17 a.m., 6:37 a.m. and every 30 minutes until 7:37 a.m., 4:25 p.m. and every 30 minutes until 6:25 p.m.

Northbound buses reverse the southbound routing.

DRT has not yet confirmed stops for the buses operating along the new route, but northbound buses likely drop off or pick up passengers at current DRT stops

  • on Commencement Drive at Durham College / University of Ontario Insitute of Technology and west of Simcoe Street North,
  • on Simcoe Street North at Conlin Road East and Northern Dancer Drive.

DRT buses operating along the 310 Winchester, 401 Simcoe, 416 Kedron, 417 Conlin, 910 Campus Connect, 915 Taunton and 950 Reach / Simcoe North routes also drop off or pick up passengers at the stops on Commencement Drive. Northbound buses start their trips on thee campuses at 6:06 a.m., 6:26 a.m. and every 30 minutes until 7:26 a.m., 4:20 p.m. and every 30 minutes until 6:20 p.m. They end their trips on Britannia Avenue West east of Kentucky Derby Way at 6:11 a.m., 6:31 a.m. and every 30 minutes until 7:31 a.m., 4:19 p.m. and every 30 minutes until 6:19 p.m.

653 Cannington / Lindsay

DRT is introducing new on-demand services for passengers travelling to and from the Townships of Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge.

It’s offering fixed-route, on-demand service from Cannington to Lindsay town in the City of Kawartha Lakes Fridays only.

In Cannington, buses start their trips on Cameron Street West at Ann Street South, then proceed:

eastward along Cameron West and East / Regional Road 12;
southward along Simcoe Street / Regional Road 2;
eastward along Highway 7 and Kent Street East [Lindsay], stopping at Lindsay Square (mall) and Ross Memorial Hosptial in Lindsay.

The bus leaves at 11:10 a.m. Fridays. It arrives at the Lindsay hospital at 11:45 a.m. A northbound DRT bus operating along the 601 Brock / Uxbridge route arrives on Cameron East west of Ann in Cannington at 11:08 a.m. so you can connect with the Lindsay service. A southbound GO Transit bus operating along the 81 Port Perry / Whitby route arrives on Cameron East west of Ann at 11:08 a.m. so you can connect with the Lindsay service.

From Lindsay, the bus reverses its route.

The bus leaves the hospital at 2:45 p.m. It leaves Lindsay Square at 2:50 p.m. It ends its trip on on Cameron east of Ann at 3:20 p.m. A southbound GO Transit bus operating along the 81 Port Perry / Whitby route arrives on Cameron East west of Ann at 3:26 p.m. so you can connect from the Lindsay service. 408 Garrard

DRT is introducing service along this new route between Oshawa Centre Terminal and Thickson Road North / Taunton Road East in Whitby. Buses operate along the new route Mondays to Fridays before about 8 p.m. and Saturdays before about 6 p.m.

Starting Tuesday, September 5, southbound buses start their trips on Taunton East east of Thickson North, then proceed:

eastward along Taunton;
southward along Garrard and Kendalwood Roads;
eastward along Burns Street East and Gibb Street; and then
northward into Oshawa Centre Terminal,
ending their trips.

DRT has not yet confirmed stops for the buses operating along the new route, but southbound buses likely drop off or pick up passengers at current DRT stops

  • on Taunton Road East east of Thickson Road North and at Tom Edwards Drive,
  • on Garrard Road at Griffin Place, Shore Avenue, Dryden Boulevard, Rolling Acres Drive, Fencerow Drive and Burgundy Court, south of Rossland Road East, at Dyment Drive, south of Parkview Boulevard and at Gadsby Drive and Manning Road.

Buses operating along the 915 Taunton route also drop off or pick up passengers at the stop on Taunton East. Buses operating along the 305 Thickson route also serve passengers at the stops on Taunton East and Garrard north of Dryden Boulevard. Buses operating along the 305 Thickson route currently serve stops on Garrard Road between Dryden and Manning Road, but no longer do so after Saturday, September 2. Buses operating along the revised 409 Garrard / Stevenson route also serve the stops on Taunton East and Garrard north of Rossland Road East.

603 Pickering / Uxbridge

DRT is introducing this new route to link the village of Claremont with Uxbridge to the north and Pickering to the south. DRT offers

Buses serving the new route replace current service along the 199 Claremont route and offer passengers four trips in each direction Mondays to Fridays instead of just one in each direction Fridays only and only between Claremont and Pickering.

Starting Tuesday, September 5, southbound buses start their trips on Toronto Street North north of Brock Street West in Uxbridge, then proceed:

southwestward along Toronto South;
along Wellwood Road to Walmart, then returning to Toronto South;
southwestward along Toronto and Durham Highway 47;
southward along Brock Road [Regional Road 1];
northward along Old Brock Road;
westward along Henry Street;
southward along William Street;
eastward along Central Avenue;
northward along Franklin Street;
westward along Joseph Street;
northward along Old Brock;
southward along Brock;
westward along Kingston Road;
southward along Glenanna Road; and then
westward along Pickering Parkway to Pickering Parkway Terminal,
ending their trips.

Two early-morning southbound buses leave Toronto South south of Brock West at 6:30 and 7:55 a.m. Mondays to Fridays. They end their trips in Pickering Parkway Terminal at 7:15 and 8:40 a.m. Two more buses start at Uxbridge Walmart at 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. and end their trips in Pickering at 11:53 a.m. and 1:53 p.m.

Northbound buses start their trips in Pickering Parkway Terminal, then proceed:

westward along Pickering Parkway;
northward along Liverpool Road;
eastward along Kingston Road;
northward along Brock Road [Regional Road 1];
northward along Old Brock Road;
westward along Henry Street;
southward along William Street;
eastward along Central Avenue;
northward along Franklin Street;
westward along Joseph Street;
northward along Old Brock and Brock;
northeastward along Regional Highway 47 and Toronto Street South; and then
eastward along Wellwood Drive to Walmart,
ending their trips.

Northbound buses leave Pickering at 10:32 a.m. and 12:32, 3:40 and 5:45 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. They all end their trips at Walmart in Uxbridge at 11:10 a.m. and 1:10, 4:18 and 6:23 p.m.

652 Port Perry Connector

DRT is introducing new on-demand services for passengers travelling to and from the Townships of Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge.

Buses operate Mondays to Fridays. You can arrange a bus to pick you up anywhere in Scugog Township starting at 6:20 a.m. The bus ends its trip in Port Perry Terminal - on Curts Street east of Water Street - by 7:49 a.m. A southbound DRT bus operating along the 950 Reach / Simcoe North route leaves the terminal at 7:54 a.m. It ends its trip on the North Oshawa campuses of Durham College / University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) at 8:23 a.m. A northbound bus leaves the terminal at 7:57 a.m. It ends its trip on Toronto Street North north of Brock Street West in Uxbridge at 8:33 a.m.

Afternoons, a southbound DRT bus operating along the 950 Reach / Simcoe North route leaves Uxbridge at 4:30 p.m. It arrives in Port Perry at 5:04 p.m. A northbound bus leaves Durham College / UOIT at 4:50 p.m. It arrives in Port Perry at 5:22 p.m. After you arrive in Port Perry, your pre-arranged on-demand bus can take you anywhere in Scugog Township. The bus leaves the terminal on Curts east of Water at 5:27 p.m.

DRT is introducing new on-demand services for passengers travelling to and from the Townships of Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge.

You can arrange a bus to pick you up anywhere in Uxbridge Township starting at 5:45 a.m. The bus ends its trip on Toronto Street North north of Brock Street West by 7:15 a.m. A southbound DRT bus operating along the 950 Reach / Simcoe North route leaves Toronto North north of Brock West at 7:20 a.m. It ends its trip on the North Oshawa campuses of Durham College / University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) at 8:23 a.m. A westbound DRT bus operating along the 960 Uxbridge / Newmarket route leaves Toronto / Brock at 7:20 a.m. It ends its trip in the Highway 404 / Davis Drive Park and Ride carpool lot at 7:44 a.m. A southbound GO Transit bus operating along the 71 Uxbridge / Toronto route leaves Toronto / Brock at 7:36 a.m. It ends its trip in Union Station GO Bus Terminal at 9:30 a.m.

Afternoons, a northbound GO bus operating along the 71 Uxbridge / Toronto route at 4:18 p.m. It arrives in Uxbridge at 6:02 p.m. A northbound DRT bus operating along the 950 Reach / Simcoe North route leaves Durham College / UOIT at 4:50 p.m. It arrives in Uxbridge at 5:58 p.m. An eastbound DRT bus operating along the 960 Uxbridge / Newmarket route leaves Newmarket at 5:38 p.m. It arrives in Uxbridge at 6 p.m. After you arrive in Uxbridge, your pre-arranged on-demand bus can take you anywhere in Uxbridge Township. Introducing a new branch of a route


916 Rossland

Starting Tuesday, September 5, DRT introduces the new 916C branch of the route to designate buses that operate along Wilson Road North and Terrace Drive in Oshawa. It designates buses that skip Wilson North and Terrace and remain on Rossland Road East as operating along the main 916 branch of the route.

All buses operate along the 916C branch Mondays to Fridays before about 7 p.m. All buses operate along the main 916 branch Mondays to Fridays after about 7 p.m. and all day Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

DRT is also decreasing service along part of the route, increasing the frequency of service along the entire route and revising the path for buses operating along the route.

Canceling a route


199 Claremont

Friday, September 1 is the last day that DRT operates buses along the route.

Starting Tuesday, September 5, it replaces the service with buses operating along the new 603 Pickering / Uxbridge route.

Increasing service along routes


601 Brock / Uxbridge

601B branch

DRT increases early-morning late-afternoon service for passengers travelling to and from Sunderland.

Starting Tuesday, September 5, the southbound bus that usually starts its trip on Regional Road 1 north of Ravenshoe Road in Udora 6:03 a.m. Mondays to Fridays starts, instead, further north along the route on Albert Street South north of Jones Street in Sunderland at 5:53 a.m. The bus drops off or picks passengers at all stops at the usual time. It ends its trip on Toronto Street North north of Brock Street West in Uxbridge at 6:19 a.m.

The southbound bus that usually starts its trip on Wellwood Road beside Walmart in Uxbridge at 7:05 p.m., starts, instead, 35 minutes earlier at 6:30 p.m. The bus drops off or picks up passengers as much as 35 minutes earlier than usually. It arrives in Udora at 6:51 p.m., but then continues to Sunderland, ending its trip at 7:02 p.m.

910 Campus Connect

With the start of the fall academic term on the North Oshawa campuses of Durham College and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, the Whibty campus of Durham College and the Oshawa campus of Trent University, DRT resumes extra service along the route.

Starting Tuesday, September 5, it again operates the extra westbound buses that leave the Durham / UOIT North Oshawa campuses at 7:05 and 7:35 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. and every 30 minutes until 5:45 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses end their trips in Whitby GO Station bus terminal at 7:43 and 8:13 a.m. and 3:35 p.m. and every 30 minutes until 6:22 p.m.)

It also resumes the extra eastbound buses that leave Ajax at 8:55 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. and every 30 minutes until 3 p.m. (The buses end their trips on the campuses at 9:32 a.m. and 10:07 a.m. and every 30 minutes until 3:37 p.m.)

Extra service ends Friday, December 8, 2017. It resumes Tuesday, January 2, 2018.

DRT is also increasing the frequency of service along the route.

408 Garrard

DRT revises the path so that buses no longer operate along Thornton Road and renames the route.

With the start of the fall academic term on the North Oshawa campuses of Durham College and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, DRT resumes extra service along the route.

Extra westbound buses leave Harmony Terminal at 7:30, 8 and 8:30 a.m. and 3:30, 4 and 4:30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. They end their trips on the campuses at 7:44, 8:14 and 8:44 a.m. and 3:44, 4:14 and 4:44 p.m.

Extra eastbound buses leave the campuses at 7:55 a.m. and 3:15, 3:45, 4:15, 4:45, 5:15 and 5:45 p.m. They end their trips in Harmony Terminal at 8:08 a.m. and 3:30, 4, 4:30, 5, 5:30 and 6 p.m.

By operating extra buses, DRT increases the frequency of service along the route Mondays to Fridays during rush hours.

DRT is also adjusting the schedules for buses operating along the route.

603 Pickering / Uxbridge

DRT is introducing this new route to link the village of Claremont with Uxbridge to the north and Pickering to the south. DRT offers

Buses serving the new route replace current service along the 199 Claremont route and offer passengers four trips in each direction Mondays to Fridays instead of just one in each direction Fridays only and only between Claremont and Pickering.

915 Taunton

With the start of the fall academic term on the North Oshawa campuses of Durham College and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, DRT resumes extra service along the route. Starting Tuesday, September 5, it again operates the extra westbound buses that leave the campuses at 8:45 a.m. and every 30 minutes until 2:45 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. (The buses end their trips in Ajax GO Station bus terminal at 9:25 a.m. and every 30 minutes until 3:25 p.m.)

It also resumes the extra eastbound buses that leave Ajax at 8:55 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. and every 30 minutes until 3 p.m. (The buses end their trips on the campuses at 9:32 a.m. and 10:07 a.m. and every 30 minutes until 3:37 p.m.)

Extra service ends Friday, December 8, 2017. It resumes Tuesday, January 2, 2018.

DRT is also increasing the frequency of service along the route.

305 Thickson

Starting Labour Day, Monday, September 4, DRT revises the path for buses operating along the route so that buses operate both ways along Thickson Road North between Dryden Boulevard and Manning Road. Buses no longer operate along Garrard Road south of Dryden.

  • on Thornton Road South across from Donegal and Arklow Avenues and beside Trent University’s Oshawa campus,
  • on King Street West [Oshawa] west of Thornton Road North and
  • on Dundas Street East [Whitby] at Garrard Road.

DRT buses operating along the 910 Campus Connect route continue to drop off or pick up passengers at the stops on Thornton Road South. Buses operating along the 900 PULSE route continue to serve passengers at the stops on King West and Dundas East.

  • on Taunton Road East east of Garrard Road.

Westbound buses operating along the 916 Rossland route drop off or pick up passengers at these stops only Mondays to Fridays before about 7 p.m.:

Buses operating along the 414 Oshawa community bus continue to serve the stop on Terrace at Canonbury Monday-to-Friday midday.

  • on Terrace Drive across from Mayfair Avenue and at Wilson Road North and
  • on Wilson Road North north of Rossland Road East.

Buses operating along the 414 Oshawa community bus continue to serve the stop on Terrace at Wilson North and on Wilson North north of Rossland East Monday-to-Friday midday. Buses operating along the 405 Wilson route continue to serve the Wilson stop at all times of the week.

resuming their usual route eastward alon Rossland West.

Westbound buses operate along their usual route to Rossland Road East and Wilson Road North, then proceed:

Starting Tuesday, September 5, the southbound bus that usually starts its trip on Regional Road 1 north of Ravenshoe Road in Udora 6:03 a.m. Mondays to Fridays starts, instead, further north along the route on Albert Street South north of Jones Street in Sunderland at 5:53 a.m. The bus drops off or picks passengers at all stops at the usual time. It ends its trip on Toronto Street North north of Brock Street West in Uxbridge at 6:19 a.m.

The southbound bus that usually starts its trip on Wellwood Road beside Walmart in Uxbridge at 7:05 p.m., starts, instead, 35 minutes earlier at 6:30 p.m. The bus drops off or picks up passengers as much as 35 minutes earlier than usually. It arrives in Udora at 6:51 p.m., but then continues to Sunderland, ending its trip at 7:02 p.m.

The northbound buses that usually leave Clover Ridge West at Pittmann at 8:53 and 9:53 p.m. leave, instead, five minutes earlier at 8:48 and 9:48 p.m. They drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route as much as five minutes earlier than usually. They end their trips in Ajax GO Station bus terminal at 9 and 10 p.m.

Starting Saturday, September 9, DRT adjusts the schedules for buses operating along the route Saturdays.

DRT is also increasing the frequency of service along the route.

Making another change to service along routes


409 Thornton / Stevenson

Starting Labour Day, Monday, September 4, DRT revises the path so that buses no longer operate along Thornton Road and renames the route 409 Garrard / Stevenson.
