Metrolinx continues to prepare for upcoming construction of the Finch West light rail transit line between Humber College and Finch West subway station in the North York and Etobicoke areas of Toronto.

Enbridge continues relocating gas lines on Finch Avenue West to prepare for the upcoming project. Enbridge must move the natural gas pipelines from the centre of the roadway (the proposed location of the new track-bed) to the south side of Finch Avenue West between Kipling Avenue and east of Islington Avenue.

“In September” (perhaps as early as Tuesday, September 5), crews start phase 3 of the project, occupying a section of the roadway

  • on Finch Avenue West between Islington Avenue and 400 metres east of Islington just east of Milady Road,

near the site of the future Islington stop, as crews dig a trench and install the gas line in its new location.

During working hours, the work zone may restrict traffic on the east- and westbound lanes of Finch West or block the entire roadway for a short term. All roads reopen evenings after working hours for local residents. Driveways will be accessible to residents at all times.

Crews mostly work from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays. Occasionally, they may work late nights, early mornings or Sundays to complete this phase of the project on time.

TTC passengers aboard buses along these routed can expect delays:

  • 36 Finch West; and
  • 336 Finch West overnight.

The TTC may also temporarily relocate bus stops as construction proceeds.

Enbridge continues relocating the gas lines at west of Islington “for approximately three months”, or until about December 9.

Crews started phase 1 of the project east of Kipling Avenue Monday, March 20.

Crews started phase 2 of the project west of Islington Avenue Thursday, May 18.

From Saturday, August 12 until Sunday, August 20, the City of Toronto closed eastbound lanes of Finch Avenue West between Kipling and Islington Avenue to accommodate Enbridge crews who were connecting the new gas line to main gas network.
