Invictus Games affect TTC services,
September 22 to 30



Toronto is hosting the 2017 Invictus Games, an international sporting event for wounded, ill and injured servicemen and -women, both serving and veterans.

The City of Toronto is closing:

  • Bay Street south of Front Street West from 5 until 8 p.m.

Saturdays, September 23 and September 30 during the opening and closing ceremonies for the event in the Air Canada Centre.

The City is also closing:

  • Queen Street West between York and Bay Streets

from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday, September 22, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, September 23, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, September 24 and from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, September 25 during wheelchair tennis competitions in Nathan Phillips Square.

York University is closing:

  • Ian Macdonald Boulevard between Shoreham Drive and Founders Road

from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday, September 24 and from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., Monday, September 25 during a number of sporting events at the York Lions Stadium on the Keele campus.

The TTC is detouring buses operating along these routes, while the streets are closed:

  • 6 Bay;
  • 72B Pape via Commissioners and Queens Quay;
  • 106 York University;
  • 501 Queen; and
  • 502 Downtowner.

The TTC has assigned Wheel-Trans vehicles to provide accessible service to two more games venues:


The events at York University also affects York Region Transit buses operating along this route Monday, September 25 only during rush hours:


The opening and closing ceremonies may affect GO Transit buses heading toward Union Station GO Bus Terminal along these routes:

  • 16 Hamilton / Toronto;
  • 21 Milton / Toronto;
  • 31 Guelph / Georgetown / Toronto;
  • 63 King City / Toronto;
  • 65 Newmarket / Toronto; and
  • 71 Stouffville / Toronto.

However, GO has not announced detour information.

6 Bay

From 5 until 8 p.m. Saturday, September 23 and Saturday, September 30, southbound buses operate along their regular route to Bay Street and Gerrard Street West, then detour:

eastward along Gerrard West; and then
southward along Yonge Street to Queens Quay,
resuming their regular route eastward along Queens Quay West.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Bay Street at Gerrard Street West, Elm Street, Dundas Street West, Hagerman Street, Nathan Phillips Square, Queen, Adelaide, King and Front Streets West and south of Harbour Street and
  • on Queens Quay West east of Bay Street.

Instead, southbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Yonge Street at Elm Street and Dundas Street West, across from 247 Yonge and Shuter Street and at Queen, Richmond, King, Wellington and Front Streets West and Queens Quay West.

Northbound buses reverse the southbound detour routing.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Bay Street north of Queens Quay West, across from the Air Canada Centre, at Front, Wellington and King Street West, north of Adelaide Street West, at Queen Street West and Albert Street, across from Hagerman Street and at Dundas Street West, Elm Street and Gerrard Street West.

Instead, northbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Yonge Street north of Front Street East and at King, Richmond and Queen Streets East, Shuter Street and Dundas Street East and across from Elm Street.

From 8:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 22 and from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Monday, September 25, eastbound buses start their trips on Duncan Street south of Queen Street West, then proceed:

eastward along Queen West;
southward along University Avenue;
eastward along Adelaide Streets West and East; and then
northward along Church Street to Queen East,
resuming their regular route eastward along Queen.

Eastbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Queen Street West at York, Bay and Yonge Streets and
  • on Queen Street East at Victoria and Church Streets.

Instead, eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Adelaide Street West east of University Avenue and at Bay Street,
  • on Adelaide Street East east of Yonge Street and
  • on Church Street north of Lombard Street and at Queen Street East.

Westbound buses operate along their regular route to Queen Street East and Victoria Street, then detour:

southward along Victoria;
eastward along Richmond Streets East and West; and then
northward along Duncan Street to Queen West,
ending their trips.

From 5 until 8 p.m. Saturday, September 23 and Saturday, September 30, westbound buses operate along their regular route to Yonge and Wellington Streets, then detour:

northward along Yonge to King Street,
ending their trips.

  • on Bay Street at Front Street West.

Instead, westbound buses drop off passengers at a temporary stop

  • on Yonge Street at King Street East.

Eastbound buses start their trips on Yonge Street just south of King Street East, then proceed:

eastward along King East;
southward along Church Street;
eastward along Wellington Street East; and then
southward along Yonge to Queens Quay,
resuming their regular route eastward along Queens Quay East.

southward along Spadina;
eastward along King Streets West and East; and then
northward along Church Street to Queen East,
resuming their regular route eastward along Queen.

  • on Queen Street West at Peter, John and Duncan Streets, University Avenue and at York, Bay and Yonge Streets and
  • on Queen Street East at Victoria and Church Street.

  • on King Street West at Blue Jays Way, John Street, University Avenue and Bay and Yonge Streets,

106 York University

Southbound buses operate along their regular route.

From 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. Sunday, September 24 and from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m., Monday, September 25, northbound buses operate along their regular route to Sentinel Road and The Pond Road, then detour:

eastward along The Pond;
northward along the York University Busway; and then
westward along York Boulevard to the Harry W. Arthurs Common,
ending their trips.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on The Pond Road across from Sentinel Road and at Arboretum Lane and
  • on Ian Macdonald Boulevard across from Northwest Gate, at Ottawa Road and across from Founders Road and The Chimneystack Road.

Wheel TransHigh Park shuttle

The City is closing all roadways in the park to accommodate the games’ cycling events from 12:15 a.m. until 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 26 and from 12:15 a.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 27.

The TTC has assigned an accessible Wheel-Trans vehicle to Dundas West Station to help passengers travel to and from the events.

Wheel-TransRyerson Mattamy Athletic Centre shuttle

The TTC has assigned four Wheel-Trans vehicles to shuttle between St George Station and the venue on the former Maple Leaf Gardens site at Church and Carlton Streets. Buses drop off or pick up passengers at three subway stations — St George and Queen’s Park, which have elevators between the train platform and the street and College, which does not.

Events take place in the Mattamy Centre from Monday, September 25 until Saturday, September 30.

The vehicles likely operate along a similar route to the 406 Venue Downtown shuttle buses that the TTC operating in 2015 during the Pan Am Games and the ParaPan Am Games.


York Region Transit
Viva orange

All day Monday, September 25, southbound buses heading toward Sheppard West Station operate along their regular route to Jane Street and Steeles Avenue West, then detour:

eastward along Steeles West; and then
southward along Founders Road,
resuming their regular route southward along Ian Macdonald Boulevard.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at all vivastations.

Northbound buses operate along their regular route.
