Weekend events affect transit services, September 22, 23, 24



The Invictus Games dominates the list of events affecting transit services in the Greater Toronto, Hamilton and Golden Horseshoe area this weekend. The Games divert TTC buses and streetcars from their regular routes in the Downsview and downtown areas of Toronto.

Two major parades — Peterborough’s Pride Parade and the Niagara Wine Festival Grande Parade in St. Catharines — also affect local and regional services.

Other events take place in the Ancaster area of Hamilton, Barrie, Brampton, Burlington, the Georgetown area of Halton Hills, Guelph, the Hespeler area of Cambridge, Kitchener, the Lindsay area of Kawartha Lakes, Markham, Milton and Newmarket.

Ancaster Fair

Again this year, the Hamilton Street Railway is operating shuttle bus service from the Meadowlands Terminal to the fairgrounds, south of Wilson Street West (City Highway 2) on Trinity Road. You have to pay regular HSR fares on the buses. It’s also operating express shuttle buses between downtown Hamilton and the fair.

Eastbound buses leave Ancaster Fairgrounds at

  • 5:45 and 6:55 p.m., then 8 p.m. and every hour until 11 p.m. Friday, September 22,

The buses start their trips at the fairgrounds north of the free parking area, just west of Gate 2, then proceed:

eastward through Gate 2;
northward along Trinity Road;
eastward along Wilson Street West;
northward along Highway 403; and then
eastward along Main Street West to MacNab Street South,
ending their trips.

Buses drop off passengers only:

  • on Main Street West at Dundurn Street South, Poulette Street and Queen and MacNab Streets South.

Westbound buses leave King Street West across from MacNab Terminal at

  • 5:10, 6:20 and 7:30 p.m., then every hour until 9:30 p.m. Friday,

resuming their regular route southwestward along Guelph.

Safe Semester Project

The City of Guelph is closing

  • Macdonell Street between the Macdonell parking lot and the West Parkade and

Friday and Saturday nights from 11 p.m. until 4 a.m. the next day and from Friday, September 8 until early Sunday, October 2 to accommodate the annual program to create a safe and enjoyable environment for downtown patrons, including the influx of students who settle in Guelph each year. The program works to reduce conflicts between pedestrians and drivers getting in and out of downtown on weekends and prevent littering and “public nuisances”.
