William Forster Road Markham construction:
YRT detours start October 6



Starting Friday, October 6, the City of Markham is closing:

  • William Forster Road between Riverlands Avenue and Highway 7

during a construction project.

(Until recently, the City designated this roadway as part of “Cornell Rouge Boulevard”.)

York Region Transit is detouring buses operating along these routes, while the street is closed:

  • 25 Major Mackenzie; and
  • 406 Markham District high school special.

Construction on William Forster Road and the YRT detours continue until November 16.


25 Major Mackenzie

From Friday, October 6 until Thursday, November 16, westbound buses operate along their regular route to Highway 7 and Bur Oak Avenue, then detour:

northward along Bur Oak;
eastward along Church Street;
northward along Cornell Centre Boulevard; and then
eastward along Riverlands Avenue to William Forster Road,
resuming their regular route northward along William Forster.

Westbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Cornell Centre Boulevard north of Highway 7 and at Rustle Woods Avenue and
  • on William Forster Road at Honey Glen and Riverlands Avenues.

Instead westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Bur Oak Avenue north of Highway 7 and south of Church Street and
  • on William Forster Road north of Riverlands Avenue.

Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to William Forster Road and Riverlands Avenue, then detour:

westward along Riverlands;
southward along Cornell Centre Boulevard; and then
westward along Church Street to Bur Oak Avenue,
resuming their regular route westward along Church.

Eastbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on William Forster Road at Honey Glen Avenue;
  • on Rustle Woods Avenue at Cornell Centre Boulevard,
  • on Cornell Centre Boulevard at Highway 7 and
  • on Bur Oak Avenue north of Highway 7 and south of Church Street.
406 Markham District high school special

Monday-to-Friday school-day mornings from Friday, October 6 until Thursday, November 16, buses start their trips on Cornell Centre Boulevard south of Rustle Woods Avenue, then proceed:

northward along Cornell Centre; and then
eastward along Riverlands Avenue to William Forster Road,
resuming their regular route northward along William Forster.

Morning buses skip their regular stops

  • on William Forster Road at Honey Glen and Riverlands Avenue.

Instead morning buses pick up passengers at a temporary stop

  • on William Forster Road north of Riverlands Avenue.

School-day afternoons, buses reverse the morning detour routing.

Afternoon buses skip their regular stops

  • on William Forster Road at Honey Glen Avenue and
  • on Rustle Woods Avenue at Cornell Centre Boulevard.
