TTC closing Queen Station this weekend
for PRESTO construction, October 20, 21, 22

Crews continue installing new, PRESTO-enabled fare-gates at Queen Station this weekend.

The TTC is closing the station to passengers and trains operating along Line 1 Yonge - University must bypass the station in both directions from 11 p.m. Friday, October 20 until 5:30 a.m. Monday, October 23.

Earlier this week, the TTC starting closing the station at 11 p.m. each night. After this weekend, it continues to close the station early until it finishes working on the new fare-gates in late November. The TTC says that “Because Queen Station is one of the TTC’s busiest, with tighter fare lines, closing early and for the weekend is necessary to complete the construction.”

This work is part of the TTC’s final wave to install the new paddle-style fare gates in 25 stations and more than 50 entrances over the next eight months.

According to the TTC, “The new gates, which improve customer flow and provide an unobstructed path [into] and out of stations, are a key piece of the TTC’s overall modernization plan. The new gates are in place today at 45 stations and 77 entrances.”
