TTC detours, overnight, October 28, 29



The TTC is closing

  • the Bay streetcar tunnel

from 2 a.m. Saturday, October 28 until 5 a.m. Sunday, October 29,

as crews maintain the tracks. (A motorist recently drove into the tunnel, which may have necessitated this work.)

The City of Toronto is closing:

  • Lower Spadina Avenue between Fort York Boulevard / Bremner Boulevard and Lake Shore Boulevard East and
  • the eastbound off-ramp from the Frederick G. Gardiner Expressway

from 2 until 5 a.m. Sunday, October 29.

The TTC is revising service along these routes during the two projects:

  • 310 Spadina overnight;
  • 509 Harbourfront; and
  • 510 Spadina.

Buses replace streetcars along the entire 509 Harbourfront route and part of the 310 Spadina overnight and 510 Spadina routes.

509 Harbourfront

From 2 a.m. Saturday, October 28 until 5 a.m. Sunday, October 29, buses replace streetcars and operate between Princes’ Gate Loop and King Station at King and Yonge Streets.

Eastbound buses start their trips in Princes’ Gate Loop, then proceed:

northward along Canada Boulevard;
eastward along Manitoba Drive and Fleet Street;
southward along Fort York Boulevard;
eastward along Lake Shore Boulevard West;
southward along Bathurst Street;
eastward along Queens Quay West;
northward along Bay Street;
eastward along Adelaide Street West; and then
southward along Yonge Street to King Street West,
ending their trips.

Eastbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at the curb near most streetcar stops. However they also skip regular route 509 stops

  • in Exhibition Loop,
  • on Manitoba Drive at Strachan Avenue,
  • on Fleet Street east of Fort York Boulevard and across from Bastion Street and
  • at Queens Quay and Union streetcar stations (in the tunnel).

Eastbound buses also serve passengers at temporary stops

  • in Princes’ Gate Loop,
  • on Fleet Street west of Fort York Boulevard,
  • on Bay Street north of Queens Quay West and Lake Shore Boulevard West, across from the Air Canada Centre and at Front, Wellington and King Streets West and
  • on Yonge Street at King Street West (beside the entrance to King Station).

Westbound buses start their trips on Yonge Street at King Street West, then proceed:

southward along Yonge;
westward along Wellington Street West;
southward along Bay Street;
westward along Queens Quay West;
northward along Bathurst Street;
westward along Lake Shore Boulevard East;
northward along Fort York Boulevard;
westward along Manitoba Drive;
southward along Canada Drive; and then
eastward into Princes’ Gate Loop,
ending their trips.

Westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at the curb near most streetcar stops. However they also skip regular route 509 stops

  • at Union and Queens Quay streetcar stations (in the tunnel),
  • on Manitoba Drive west of Strachan Avenue and
  • in Exhibition Loop.

Westbound buses also serve passengers at temporary stops

  • on Yonge Street at King and Wellington Streets West,
  • on Bay Street at Front Street West and south of Harbour Street,
  • on Fleet Street west of Fort York Boulevard and
  • in Princes’ Gate Loop.
310 Spadina overnight
510 Spadina

From 2 a.m. Saturday, October 28 until 5 a.m. Sunday, October 29, streetcars operate only between Spadina Station and Charlotte Loop (King Street West).

Southbound cars operate along their regular route to Spadina Avenue and Adelaide Street West, then proceed:

eastward along Adelaide West; and then
southward along Charlotte Street to Oxley Street,
ending their trips.

Southbound cars skip their regular stops

  • on Spadina Avenue at King and Front Streets West,
  • on Lower Spadina Avenue south of Fort York Boulevard,
  • on Queens Quay West east of Lower Spadina Avenue and at Rees and York Streets and
  • at Queens Quay and Union streetcar stations (in the tunnel).

Shuttle buses replace the cars south of King Street West. Southbound streetcar passengers may transfer to southbound buses on Charlotte Street at Oxley Street.

Northbound cars start their trips on Charlotte Street at Oxley Street, then proceed:

southward along Charlotte; and then
westward along King Street West to Spadina Avenue,
resuming their regular route northward along Spadina.

Northbound cars skip their regular stops

  • at Union and Queens Quay streetcar stations (in the tunnel),
  • on Queens Quay West west of York and Rees Streets,
  • on Lower Spadina Avenue north of Queens Quay West and Bremner Boulevard and
  • on Spadina Avenue north of Front Street West.

Shuttle buses replace the cars south of King Street West.

310 / 510 Spadina shuttle bus

From 2 a.m. Saturday, October 28 until 5 a.m. Sunday, October 29, uses replace streetcars operating along the 310 Spadina overnight and 510 Spadina route between Charlotte Loop and King Station (at King and Yonge Streets).

Southbound cars start their trips on Charlotte Street at Oxley Street, then proceed:

southward along Charlotte;
westward along King Street West;
southward along Spadina and Lower Spadina Avenues;
eastward along Bremner Boulevard;
southward along Rees Street;
westward along Queens Quay West;
northward along Lower Spadina Avenue;
eastward along Lake Shore Boulevard West;
southward along Rees;
eastward along Queens Quay West;
northward along Bay Street;
eastward along Adelaide Street West; and then
southward along Yonge Street to King Street West,
ending their trips.
