Local transit agencies revise services
during the holidays



During the weeks before and after Christmas, people travel less often by transit. Classes are over until the new year, so students are off and many people take vacation days to enjoy the holidays.

With fewer passengers, local transit systems are decreasing or modifying their services to save on resources — drivers and vehicles. Durham Region Transit, GO Transit, Grand River Transit, MiWay, Oakville Transit, the TTC and York Region Transit are revising services — in fact, generally decreasing services — at various times throughout the week.

Durham Region Transit


DRT is decreasing service, decreasing the frequency of service or adjusting the schedules for buses operating along one regular route, Mondays to Fridays from Monday, December 11 until Friday, December 29.

DRT operates with special schedules Christmas, Monday, December 25. It operates with Sunday / holiday schedules Boxing Day, Tuesday, December 26 and New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1, 2018.

It offers later service and free service New Year’s Eve, Sunday, December 31.

Due to the lengthy Ontario college faculty strike earlier this year, classes and exams at community colleges are later than usually this year. Some services that DRT would ordinarily cancel during the holidays are continuing.


915 Taunton

Starting Monday, December 11, DRT cancels extra buses and decreases the frequency of service along the route Monday-to-Friday midday for the holiday season. The extra buses serve passengers travelling to and from the North Oshawa campuses of Durham College and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT).

GO Transit


GO decreases some of its service to colleges and universities, starting December 6. It’s decreasing more service to college and universities and decreasing other regular Monday-to-Friday service along many routes from Friday, December 23 until Tuesday, January 3, 2017.

It’s providing “early homebound” rush-hour service Friday, December 22 and Friday, December 29.

GO operates with Sunday schedules Christmas, Monday, December 25. It’s operating with Saturday schedules Boxing Day, Monday, December 26 and Sunday schedules New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1, 2018.

It offers later service and free service New Year’s Eve, Sunday, December 31.


65 Barrie train

“Early-homebound” rush-hour service Friday, December 22 and Friday, December 29, starting at about noon. GO is also cancelling some trips along the line.

93 Durham College - UOIT / Scarborough express

Thursday, December 21 is the last day this year that GO operates buses along the route. The buses serve passengers travelling to and from the North Oshawa campuses of Durham College and the University of Ontario Insitute of Technology (UOIT).

Grand River Transit


GRT is decreasing service or decreasing the frequency of service along various regular routes, Mondays to Fridays from Monday, December 18 until Friday, January 5, 2018.

GRT operates with special schedules Christmas, Monday, December 25. It operates buses along most routes with Sunday / holiday schedules Boxing Day, Tuesday, December 26. However, it operates buses along the 200 iXpress route with Saturday schedules that day.

GRT offers later service and free service New Year’s Eve, Sunday, December 31. It operates buses with Sunday / holiday service New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1.

It’s cancelling extra service to and from high schools from Tuesday, December 27 until Friday, January 5.


111 College/ Ainslie St express

Friday, December 21 is the last day this year that GRT operates buses along the route. The buses serve passengers travelling to and from Conestoga College’s Cambridge and Doon campuses.

12 Westmount

From Wednesday, December 27 until Friday, January 5, 2017, GRT is decreasing the frequency of service north of University Avenue / King Street North during rush hours.

Southbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops between Conestoga Mall and University Avenue West west of King Street North every 30 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, during morning rush hours. Northbound buses serve the stops every 30 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, during afternoon rush hours.

It’s also cancelling all extra service along the route for passengers travelling to and from the Waterloo campuses of Conestoga College, the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University.

MiWay


MiWay is decreasing the frequency of service along various regular routes, Mondays to Fridays from Monday, December 18 until Friday, December 29. It’s also supporting GO Transit’s “early homebound” rush-hour by scheduling earlier buses along some routes Friday, December 22 and Friday, December 30.

MiWay operates with holiday schedules Christmas, Monday, December 25 and New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1, 2018. With holiday schedules, buses operate as frequently as Sundays, except for 14 routes with less frequent service. It operates with Saturday schedules Boxing Day, Tuesday, December 26.

It’s cancelling extra service to and from high schools from Wednesday, December 27 until Friday, January 5. And, it’s offering later service and free service New Year’s Eve, Sunday, December 31.


26 Burnhamthorpe

Starting Monday, December 18, MiWay is decreasing the frequency of Monday-to-Friday service along the route during the holidays.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route:

  • every 19 minutes during morning rush hours;
  • every 21 minutes from about 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.;
  • every 20 minutes during afternoon rush hours and until about 8 p.m.
  • every 21 minutes from about 8 until 10 p.m.; and
  • every 28 minutes after about 10 p.m.

28 Confederation

Fridays, December 22 and December 29, MiWay supports GO Transit’s “early homebound” rush-hour service by diverting buses into Cooksville GO Station bus terminal earlier. Buses meet earlier GO trains operating along the 21 Milton line at the station.

101 Dundas express

Starting Monday, December 18, MiWay is decreasing the frequency of Monday-to-Friday service along the route during the holidays.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops north and west of Erin Mills Parkway / Dundas Street West:

  • every 22 minutes, instead of every 10 minutes, Mondays to Fridays during rush hours; and
  • every 30 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes, from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and after about 7 p.m.

They serve passengers at stops east of Erin Mills / Dundas West:

  • every 11 minutes, instead of every 5 minutes, during rush hours; and
  • every 15 minutes, instead of every 10 minutes, from about 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and after about 7 p.m.

Buses operating along the 101A branch remain on Dundas Street, instead of operating to and from the University of Toronto’s Mississauga campus.

35 / 35A Eglinton

Starting Monday, December 18, MiWay is decreasing the frequency of service along the route for the holidays.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops west of Winston Churchill Boulevard:

  • every 20 minutes, during rush hours.

They serve passengers at stops east of Winston Churchill:

  • every 10 minutes, during rush hours;
  • every 20 minutes from about 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.; and
  • every 30 minutes after about 9 p.m.

103 Hurontario express

Starting Monday, December 18, MiWay is decreasing the frequency of Monday-to-Friday service along the route for the holidays.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops west of Winston Churchill Boulevard:

  • every 11 minutes during morning rush hours and until about 3 p.m.;
  • every 11 minutes during afternoon rush hours and until about 8 p.m.; and
  • every 20 minutes after about 9 p.m.

32 Lisgar GO shuttle

Fridays, December 22 and December 29, MiWay supports GO Transit’s “early homebound” rush-hour service by scheduling earlier buses along the route. Buses meet earlier GO trains operating along the 21 Milton line at Lisgar GO Station.

107 Malton express

Starting Monday, December 19, MiWay operates less frequent service along the route. All buses start and end their trips in Westwood Mall terminal and do not serve Humber College’s North Campus.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route

  • every 11 minutes, instead of every 12 minutes, Mondays to Fridays during rush hours; and
  • every 18 minutes, instead of every 12½ minutes, from about 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Until Friday, December 22, passengers travelling between Humber and Westwood may board buses operating along a non-stop shuttle bus. The buses serve Platform K at Westwood and Platform 1 at Humber College.

Shuttle service starts at 7 a.m. Buses drop off or pick up passengers every 12 minutes during rush hours and every 20 minutes off-peak. The last eastbound bus leaves Westwood at 10:36 p.m. and the last westbound bus leaves Humber at 10:45 p.m.

From Wednesday, December 27 until Friday, December 29, all buses start and end their trips in Westwood Mall terminal and do not serve Humber College’s North campus.

49A McDowell - Streetsville GO Station

Fridays, December 22 and December 29, MiWay supports GO Transit’s “early homebound” rush-hour service by scheduling earlier buses along the route. Buses meet earlier GO trains operating along the 21 Milton line at Streetsville GO Station.

66 McLaughlin

Since fewer passengers travel to and from the Sheridan College’s Davis campus during the holidays, MiWay decreases the frequency of Monday-to-Friday service along the route from Monday, December 18 until Friday, December 29.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route:

  • every 15 minutes, instead of every 9½ minutes, Mondays to Fridays during rush hours; and
  • every 16 minutes, instead of every 13 minutes, from about 10:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Fridays, December 22 and December 29, MiWay supports GO Transit’s “early homebound” rush-hour service by diverting buses into Streetsville GO Station bus terminal earlier. Buses meet earlier GO trains operating along the 21 Milton line at the station.

67 Streetsville GO shuttle

Starting Monday, December 18, MiWay is decreasing the frequency of service along the route for the holidays.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops along the route:

  • every 13 minutes during rush hours;
  • every 23 minutes from about 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.; and
  • every 34 minutes after about 8 p.m.

Holiday service ends and regular service resumes Tuesday, January 2, 2018.

110 University express

Starting Monday, December 18, MiWay operates fewer short-turning buses between the University of Toronto’s Mississauga campus and City Centre Terminal.

Buses drop off or pick up passengers at stops east of the campus:

  • about every 15 to 17 minutes, instead of every 5 to 10 minutes, from about 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Holiday service ends and regular service resumes Tuesday, January 2, 2018.

Oakville Transit is supporting GO Transit’s “early homebound” rush-hour by scheduling earlier buses along some routes Fridays, December 22 and December 29.

OT operates with Sunday / holiday schedules Christmas, Monday, December 25 and New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1, 2018. It operates with Saturday schedules Boxing Day, Tuesday, December 26.

It’s cancelling extra service to and from high schools from Wednesday, December 27 until Friday, January 5. It offers later service and free service New Year’s Eve, Sunday, December 31.

Toronto Transit Commission


The TTC operates with Sunday schedules Christmas, Monday, December 25 and New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1, 2018. It operates with holiday schedules Boxing Day, Tuesday, December 26. With holiday schedules, buses, streetcars and trains operate as frequently as Sundays, but start earlier, about 6 a.m.

It’s cancelling extra service to and from high schools from Wednesday, December 27 until Friday, January 5.

It offers later service and free service New Year’s Eve, Sunday, December 31.

Buses, streetcars and trains operate with less frequent service during rush hours Mondays to Fridays from Monday, December 19 until Friday, December 30, except holidays.

Regular Monday-to-Friday rush-hour service resumes Monday, January 2, 2017.

Dial-a-Ride North

Mondays to Fridays starting Wednesday, December 20, you can ride YRT’s Dial-a-Ride North vehicles to “The ROC” (the Town of Georgina’s Recreational Outdoor Centre).To book a ride during DAR North hours, call 1-844-667-5327 at least an hour before your trip.  If you bought a season pass to the ROC, you can ride the buses free of fare. Just show the driver your season pass when you board.

52 Holland Landing

50 Queensway

Saturdays, Sundays and holidays starting Saturday, December 23, YRT revises the route to serve “The ROC” (the Town of Georgina’s Recreational Outdoor Centre).

Buses heading to The ROC operate along the regular 50 Queensway route to Metro Road and Civic Centre Road, then divert southward to The ROC. After turning around, they proceed northward along Civic Centre to Metro Road, resuming their regular route west- or eastward along Metro.

All buses divert to The ROC until 1 p.m. if passengers on board ask the driver to stop there. You must notify the bus operator when you board. To ask for a bus to pick you up from The ROC, call 1-844-667-5327. After 1 p.m., you must call 1-844-667-5327 to ask for the next available Route 50 bus to and from The ROC. You must call at least an hour before your trip.

If you bought a season pass to the ROC, you can ride the buses free of fare. Just show the driver your season pass when you board.

The ROC is not open Christmas, Monday, December 25 so buses won’t divert there that day.

You can ride to and from The ROC Mondays to Fridays with YRT’s Dial-a-Ride North service.

760 Vaughan Mills / Wonderland

From Sunday, December 17 until New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1, 2018, YRT operates buses every day (except for Christmas, Monday, December 25) along the route between Vaughan Mills Terminal and Finch GO Bus Terminal. The schedule reflects the holiday hours at Vaughan Mills mall. Buses do not operate north of Vaughan Mills to and from Canada’s Wonderland.

Sunday, December 17, buses operate every 20 to 21 minutes from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. An early trip in each direction leaves around 9 a.m.

Monday, December 18 until Friday, December 22, buses operate every 42 to 43 minutes from about 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.

Saturday, December 23, buses operate every 47 minutes from about 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. An early trip in each direction leaves around 9 a.m.

Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24, buses operate every 20 to 21 minutes from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. An early trip in each direction leaves around 9 a.m.

Christmas, Monday, December 25, YRT does not operate buses along the route because Vaughan Mills is closed.

Boxing Day, Tuesday, December 26, buses operate every 23 to 24 minutes from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m.

Wednesday, December 27 to Friday, December 29, buses operate every 23 to 24 minutes from about 10 a.m. until 9 p.m.

Saturday, December 30, buses operate every 23 to 24 minutes from about 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. An early trip in each direction leaves around 9 a.m.

New Year’s Eve, Sunday, December 31 and New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1, 2018, buses operate every 20 to 21 minutes from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Friday, December 29 was the last day until spring that YRT operates buses along the route Mondays to Fridays.

Starting Saturday, January 6, buses operate every 24 minutes from about 9:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. Saturdays. Starting Sunday, January 7, buses operate every 24 minutes from about 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Sundays and holidays.

Buses do not operate Good Friday, Friday, March 30 and Easter Monday, Monday, April 2 because Vaughan Mills is closed.
