Monday, April 16 30, Hydro One crews are starting the first phase of a project to replace electrical infrastructure on
- Main Street north of Danforth Avenue.
The TTC is detouring buses operating along these routes, while this phase of the project proceeds:
Hydro One expects that this section of Main Street would remain closed to TTC buses until “mid-May” (or until May 11 13) when conditions may be suitable for the TTC to safely operate its vehicles. However, another upcoming construction project at Main Street Station may affect this date for reopening the street to buses.
Crews are replacing an underground cable that Ontario Hydro installed during the 1960s. The cable extends under Main Street between Stephenson and Lumsden Avenues and Lumsden Avenue between Main Street and Eastdale Avenue. To replace the cable, crews are “excavating” (digging up) parts of the roadway and sidewalks. Construction starts at Danforth Avenue and continues northward along Main.
Crews set up and dismantle work zones on sections of the sidewalk and roadway, as they proceed to work on the project. During the first phase, the work zone restricts the southbound lane of Main Street, between Danforth Avenue and Main Street Station; however, traffic can continue to flow in both directions.
The work restricts access to about half of the west sidewalk, closest to the road. The rest of the sidewalk remains open for pedestrians. For public safety, the crews are enclosing the work area with fences.
As work proceeds on Main Street north of the station, the road will be open only to local traffic and the work zone will block all through traffic in areas where the crews are excavating.

Instead, westbound buses drop off or pick up passengers at a temporary stop
- on Doncaster Avenue at Main Street.
Eastbound buses operate along their regular route to Barrington and Doncaster Avenues, then detour:
southward along Barrington;
westward along Danforth Avenue;
northward along Main Street; and then
eastward into Main Street Station terminal,

Future Hydro One construction on Main Street north of Main Street Station will not affect TTC service, but expect detours or delays for buses operating along the 87 Cosburn route as work proceeds on Lumsden Avenue.
