Metrolinx continues to prepare for upcoming construction of the Finch West light rail transit line between Humber College and Finch West subway station in the North York and Etobicoke areas of Toronto.

Starting Monday, September 24, crews work in the public right-of-way

  • on Finch Avenue West between Signet Drive / Arrow Road and Keele Street

between the sites of the future Signet / Arrow stop and Finch West Station, drilling bore holes and using a hydro-vacuum truck to locate underground utilities and inspect ground conditions at intersections along the LRT corridor.

To prepare for upcoming LRT construction, the crews must identify the location and condition of underground utilities and soil quality. They’ll start working at the intersection of Finch West with Signet and Arrow, then proceed eastward toward Keele.

The temporary work zones may block traffic lanes on Finch. To maintain public safety and help direct traffic, “paid duty” Toronto Police Service officers will be at each of the intersections where the crews are working.

The TTC may temporarily relocate bus stops near the work zones. Passengers aboard buses along these routes can also expect delays:

  • 36 / 36D / 36F Finch West; and
  • 336 Finch West overnight.

Crews work Mondays to Fridays 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. Expect to see heavy trucks and equipment in the area as the crews move from one test hole to the next. Also expect noise from a saw cutter, hydro-vacuum truck, drill and other construction equipment.

Underground investigations between Signet / Arrow and Keele — and the resulting TTC delays — continue until “mid-October” or until about October 19.
