Fort Erie Transit is temporarily revising service due to fewer passengers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Starting Monday, April 20, the transit agency is cancelling service along the 751 East Green route until further notice. Buses along the 750 East Blue route continue to operate and serve the same area of the town.

That day, Fort Erie Transit is also cutting back its hours of service along the 750 East Blue and 760 West Yellow routes. Buses operate along the routes only until 7 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays, instead of 9 p.m. as usually.

Buses along the 770 North Red route continue to operate with regular schedules.

Fort Erie Transit says, “The safety of our operators and passengers is extremely important to [us].” To continue to protect riders and drives, it’s

• installed barriers in the front of the buses near the drivers. (If you use a mobility device, board through the front doors. The drivers can help get you aboard and secure your device).
• since Tuesday, March 24 required all other passengers to board through the rear doors.
• reminded passengers that bus travel is for essential trips only (employment/grocery/pharmacy).

In a notice on its website, the transit agency explains further:

“Our buses are running to transport medical staff, other essential workers and individuals that need to go to the grocery store or pharmacy get to where they need to go. By taking essential trips only you give the space required to ride safely.

“Everyone who can stay home, should stay home and do their part to flatten the curve. Please only take transit if necessary (groceries, work, pharmacy etc.) and maintain 2 meters (six feet), of distance from other people including the operator if you do ride.”
