Starting Monday, April 27, MiWay is revising local service along the Hurontario corridor to decrease impacts to travel and deliver reliable service during Metrolinx construction of the Hurontario light rail transit line.
LRT construction officially started Monday, March 30, when contractors removed medians on Hurontario Street between Highway 407 and Matheson Boulevard. Ongoing work on the project will temporarily reduce traffic lanes on parts of Hurontario Street until 2024.
MiWay is cancelling the 19 Hurontario route and replacing it with two new routes - the 2 Hurontario route, serving former route 19 stops south of City Centre Terminal and the 17 Hurontario route, serving former route 19 stops north of City Centre Terminal.
MiWay is also cancelling the 19A Hurontario - Britannia, 19B Hurontario - Cantay and 19C Hurontario - Heartland branches of route 19. It’s revising the path for buses along the 25 Traders Loop route to serve more of the Britannia Industrial Park area and partially replace service along branches 19A and 19B.
In a news release, Geoff Marinoff, the City of Mississauga’s Director of Transit, explained, “We’ve redesigned routes along the Hurontario corridor to minimize impacts to travel during [the]…construction. Our priority is to maintain service reliability as best we can to help [passengers] get to where they need to be.”
Buses along both new routes 2 and 17 drop off or pick up passengers at stops along their routes:
- 24 hours a day Mondays to Fridays:
- about every 10 minutes from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m.; and
- about every 15 to 20 minutes overnight from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m.
- Saturdays:
- about every 15 to 20 minutes from 5 a.m. until 11 p.m.; and
- about every 30 minutes from 11 p.m. until 2 a.m.
- Sundays and holidays:
- about every 15 to 20 minutes from 6 a.m. until 11 p.m.; and
- about every 30 minutes from 11 p.m. until 12:30 a.m.
You may have to change buses at City Centre Terminal to continue your trip beyond the terminal north- or southward along Hurontario. Buses along both routes pick up passengers at platform E on the east side of the terminal. However, from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m., MiWay interlines both routes, so, if you’re travelling late evenings or earlymornings, you can stay on a single bus to continue your trip along both routes.
As we explained earlier, MiWay is revising the 25 Traders Loop route to replace parts of the 19A and 19B branches Mondays to Fridays. To travel west of Hurontario Street (to areas that buses along former branch 19B formerly served), transfer at Matheson Boulevard and Hurontario Street. To travel east of Hurontario (to areas that buses along former branch 19A formerly served), transfer at Watline Avenue / Milverton Drive and Hurontario Street.
For Saturday service to and from Heartland Town Centre (an area that buses along branch 19C formerly served), board buses along the 61 Mavis or 66 McLaughlin routes. Then transfer at Britannia Road West to a bus along the 39 Britannia route toward Heartland.
Buses along branches 19A, 19B and 19C no longer drop off or pick up passengers at Trillium Health Services. Board buses along the 4 Sherway Gardens or 28 Confederation routes to travel to and from the hospital.
MiWay is also restoring regular service along several routes after having decreased service due to the COVID-19 pandemic, since Monday, March 23:
- 66 McLaughlin;
- 101 / 101A Dundas express;
- 103 Hurontario express; and
- 104 Derry express.
MiWay is revising service along these MiLocal routes: 2 Hurontario; 6 Credit Woodlands; 17 Hurontario; 19 Hurontario; 19A Hurontario - Britannia; 19B Hurontario - Cantay; 19C Hurontario - Heartland; 25 Traders Loop; 28 Confederation; 36 Colonial - Ridgeway; 39 Britannia; 42 Derry; 66 McLaughlin; 70 Keaton.
And, it’s revising service along these MiExpress routes: 101 / 101A Dundas express; 103 Hurontario express; 104 Derry express.
Specifically, MiWay is introducing new routes; cancelling routes; increasing service along routes; decreasing service along routes; revising the path for buses along routes; adjusting the schedules for buses along routes; and making other changes to service along routes.

Transit agencies often interline buses along two or more routes with a common terminal to save resources — human resources, meaning the number of drivers to operate the service and physical resources, meaning the number of buses.
For example, when a northbound bus along the 2 Hurontario route arrives at City Centre Terminal after 10 p.m., it continues northward along the 17 Hurontario route. After completing a round trip along route 17, it returns to City Centre Terminal, then continues southward along route 2.
