Starting 5 a.m. Sunday, April 26, TTC track crews are repairing concrete
- on Gerrard Street East between Main Street and Enderby Road
and replacing the rail at the westbound streetcar stop
- on Gerrard Street East at Woodbine Avenue.
Crews work only in the track area to break and mill concrete to expose the rail replace old rail with new rail and place new concrete. Track crews may also undertake some smaller work projects on Gerrard East between Main and Coxwell Avenue.
The transit agency is also detouring streetcars along these routes, while the crews work:
Shuttle buses replace the cars east of Coxwell.
Track repairs and maintenance on Gerrard Street East at Main and Woodbine and the resulting TTC detours continue until 5 a.m. May 2.
The TTC says, “Rail work of this nature is required around-the-clock to ensure quality installation of new rail and concrete. Concrete cutting and chipping can be expected for a few days.”
Starting 5 a.m. Sunday, April 26, the track crew set up the work zone. By 7 a.m., they start cutting into the concrete and by 8 a.m., start excavating and milling the concrete to expose the old rail. The crews stop excavating and milling by 10 p.m. every evening.
Then, they replace the old rail with new rail, requiring them to cut, weld and grind the rail. Afterward, they pour concrete in the track area and set it to cure. The new concrete requires curing time before the crews can remove the work zone so that motorists can resume fully using the road by 5 a.m. Saturday, May 2.
The work zone restricts traffic to just one lane in each direction. The City of Toronto may prohibit on-street parking and turns while crews work in the track area.

westward along Queen Street East; and then

Shuttle buses replace the cars east of Coxwell Avenue.
Eastbound cars operate along their regular route to Gerrard Street East and Coxwell Avenue, then detour:
southward along Coxwell; and then
eastward into Queen / Coxwell Loop,

Shuttle buses replace the cars east of Coxwell Avenue. Eastbound streetcar passengers may transfer to eastbound buses at stops on Gerrard Street East between Jones and Coxwell Avenues.

From 5 a.m. Sunday, April 26 until 5 a.m. Saturday, May 2, buses replace streetcars along the 306 Carlton overnight and 506 Carlton routes east of Coxwell Avenue.
Westbound buses start their trips in Main Street Station bus terminal, then proceed:
southward along Main Street;
westward along [upper] Gerrard Street East;
southward along Coxwell Avenue;
westward along [lower] Gerrard Street East;
southward along Greenwood Avenue; and then
westward along Dundas Street East to Jones Avenue,
