Update — Thursday, December 10, 4:13 p.m.: Apparently, buses along the 306 Carlton overnight and 506 Carlton route resumed regular service west of Lansdowne Avenue — meaning route 506 cars again operate along Howard Park Avenue to and from High Park Loop — Tuesday, December 8.

Update — Sunday, November 22, 4:50 p.m.: Starting 5 a.m. Monday, November 23, the TTC is revising how it detours services in the Dundas / College area. Nearby track construction on the bridge over the Metrolinx / GO Transit tracks east of Sterling Road continues “until late December” meaning as late as until December 31. Expect the TTC to continue detouring buses and streetcars — suspending transit service along Howard Park Avenue to and from High Park Loop — until then.

Update — Sunday, November 22, 10 a.m.: Construction on phase 1 of elevator construction in Keele Station bus terminal ends today. Buses along the 41 Keele route resume service into the terminal and no longer operate to and from High Park Loop.

Update — Sunday, November 15, 4:52 p.m.: Starting Monday, November 16, the City is closing the intersection of Dundas Street West with College Street, College Street between Dundas Street West and Lansdowne Avenue and Dundas Street West between College Street and Lansdowne Avenue to accommodate abother TTC / City project (.pdf) to replace the streetcar tracks. Update — Friday, October 23, 4:48 p.m.: Construction at Dundas West / Howard Park ends and the intersection reopens Saturday, October 24. The detours remain, however, due to two more track-replacement projects on Dundas West at Sterling Road and College Street. To prepare for the new projects, TTC crews are relocating rails from a storage site on Howard Park Avenue to another on Dundas Street West. The TTC continues to detour streetcars and buses — suspending transit service along Howard Park Avenue to and from High Park Loop — until November 10.

Update — Saturday, September 26, 2:07 p.m.: Monday, September 28, crews start the final phase of the project (.pdf) — improving the intersection of Howard Park with Lynd Avenue / Dundas Street West. They also replace the streetcar infrastructure — including tracks, switches and curves — at the junction. The TTC continues to detour streetcars and buses — suspending transit service along Howard Park Avenue to and from High Park Loop — until October 25.

Update — Saturday, September 5, 6:17 p.m.: Since the TTC has finished paving High Park Loop as part of this project, starting Sunday, September 6, it’s extending the detour routing for buses along the 41 Keele route to operate to and from the loop, instead of looping on-street during ongoing construction at Keele Station bus terminal.

Update — Friday, July 17, 10:10 p.m.: The City and TTC have further revised the work schedule.

Update — Tuesday, June 23, 5:06 p.m.: The TTC postponed the start of construction at High Park Loop until Monday, July 6, affecting the work schedule for the entire project.

(Updated — Tuesday, June 23, 5:06 p.m.) Monday, June 22 July 6, the City of Toronto and the TTC start a project (.pdf) to renew the aging streetcar tracks, resurface the roadway and repair the sidewalks

• on Howard Park Avenue between Parkside Drive and Sunnyside Avenue.

Crews also:

• rebuild the tracks and platform in High Park Loop; and
• improve the intersection of Howard Park with Lynd Avenue / Dundas Street West.

According to the City, “This work is required to bring the track infrastructure and [the] City’s road to a state of good repair and is part of the 2020 Council-approved Capital Works Program.”

Starting Sunday, June 21, the TTC replaces streetcars with buses along the entire 306 / 506 Carlton routes to accommodate this and other construction projects.

Passengers travelling to and from stops on Howard Park have no transit service until about December 31. Alternatives include:

• 80 Queensway: Board or exit from buses on Parkside Drive at Howard Park Avenue.
• 304 / 504A King: Board or exit from streetcars on Roncesvalles Avenue at Howard Park Avenue.
• 505 Dundas: Board or exit from streetcars on Dundas Street West at Howard Park Avenue; and
• 306 / 506 Carlton: Board or exit from streetcars on Dundas Street West at Howard Park Avenue.

City contractors improve the intersection of Howard Park with Parkside and install new traffic signals. The work zone blocks all traffic on Howard Park between Parkside and just west of Indian.
• Phase 3 - Monday, August 3 until Sunday, August 16 Monday, August 17 until Sunday, August 30 - TTC crews rebuild the tracks on Howard Park between Indian and Sunnyside Avenue. The work zone blocks all traffic on Howard Park between just west of Indian and Sunnyside.
• Phase 4 - Monday, August 17 until Friday, August 28 Monday, August 31 until Friday, September 11 - City contractors rebuild the sidewalk and repave the roadway on the south side of Howard Park between Parkside and Indian. The work zone restricts traffic to just one lane in each direction.
• Phase 5 - Saturday, August 29 until Saturday, September 12 Saturday, September 12 until Saturday, September 26 - City contractors rebuild the sidewalk and repave the roadway on the north side of Howard Park between Parkside and Indian. The work zone restricts traffic to just one lane in each direction.
• Phase 6 - Sunday, September 13 until Thanksgiving, Monday, October 12 Sunday, September 27 until Friday, October 23: TTC crews replace the tracks and City contractors improve the intersection of Howard Park with Lynd Avenue / Dundas Street West. Details to follow.

(Updated — Friday, July 17, 10:10 p.m.) Crews work in six phases.

• Phase 1 - Monday, July 6 until “mid-September” or until Saturday, September 12: TTC crews rebuild the tracks and the platform in High Park Loop and rebuild the tracks through the intersection of Howard Park with Parkside Drive. The work zone restricts traffic on Parkside Drive to just one lane in each direction.
• Phase 2 - Monday, July 20 until “late August” or until Saturday, August 29: TTC crews remove and replace the tracks on Howard Park between Parkside and Indian Road. The work zone blocks all traffic on Howard Park between Parkside and just west of Indian. The work zone also blocks access from Indian Grove and High Park Gardens to Howard Park and to driveways on Howard Park.
• Phase 3 - Monday, July 20 until Saturday, July 25: City contractors improve the intersection of Howard Park with Parkside and install new traffic signals. They’re removing the right-turn channel, traffic signal infrastructure and some poles and replacing sidewalks and the roadway. Crews break the concrete and excavate to replace the tracks to the east half of the intersection, starting 7 a.m. Monday, July 20. Traffic in both directions on Parkside flows along one shared lane. “Paid-duty” Toronto Police Service officers and traffic-control personnel direct traffic through the single lane, alternating the flow in each direction, one at a time. Saturday, July 25, after crews have finished replacing the tracks, traffic flows on one separate lane for each direction, while crews proceed with other work at the intersection. The City will temporarily adjust traffic regulations to allow two-traffic on High Park Gardens. It will continue to allow on-street parking on that street.
• Phase 4 - “Late August” until “mid-September” (or from Monday, August 31 until Saturday, September 12): TTC crews rebuild the tracks on Howard Park between Indian and Sunnyside Avenue. The work zone blocks all traffic on Howard Park between just west of Indian and Sunnyside. City contractors also rebuild the sidewalk and repave the roadway on the south side of Howard Park between Parkside and Indian.
• Phase 5: “Mid-September” until “late September” or from Sunday, September 11 until Saturday, September 26: City contractors rebuild the sidewalk and repave the roadway on the north side of Howard Park **between Parkside and Indian. The work zone restricts traffic to just one lane in each direction.
• Phase 6 - Sunday, September 27 until “late October” or until Friday, October 23: TTC crews replace the tracks and City contractors improve the intersection of Howard Park with Lynd Avenue / Dundas Street West. Details to follow.

During all phases of the project, crews work all day every day. They’ll restrict excavation and heavy breaking activities from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. The City says, “Concrete-breaking work is the most disruptive and will typically last the first one to two days for each phase of the construction. Around-the-clock work during rail installation by TTC is required to preserve the integrity and quality of new rail and concrete.” Overnight, TTC crews may:

• move new rail into position;
• install rail; and
• weld and grind the new rail.

TTC crews prepared for this project by welding shorter pieces of rail into longer strings starting Monday, June 15, blocking the streetcar tracks on Howard Park. The TTC also temporarily operated shuttle buses along Howard Park, starting that day and continuing until 4 a.m. September 21.
