YRT revising routes and services, June 28

York Region Transit is making minor changes to its routes and services, starting Sunday, June 28.

YRT says, “We are consistently reviewing ridership patterns to ensure our services continue to meet [passenger] demand as more businesses reopen [after shutting down due to COVID-19]. We’ve increased weekday service on some routes to help you get around more easily and allow more space between passengers.”

The highlight? The York transit agency is cancelling conventional service along the 21 Vellore local route and replacing it with a new Mobility On-Request Vellore Local service.

YRT is also resuming service along parts of two routes that it cancelled earlier this year due to lower ridership resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic:

  • 26 Maple: Rush-hour service resumes between Vaughan Mills and SmartVMC terminals; and;
  • 105 Dufferin: Service resumes along Peter Rupert Avenue to Major Mackenzie Drive West.

YRT continues to temporarily cancel service along these routes due to lower ridership numbers during the pandemic:

  • Viva blue “A”;
  • Viva green;
  • Viva pink;
  • 42 Berczy;
  • 45 Mingay;
  • 57 Mulock (buses continue to operate along the 57A branch);
  • 81 Inspiration;
  • 82 Valleymede;
  • 85C Rutherford (buses continue to operate along the 85 branch);
  • 91E Bayview express (buses continue to operate along the 91, 91A and 91B branches);
  • 165F Weston (buses continue to operate along the 165 branch);
  • 301 Markham express;
  • 302 Unionville express;
  • 304 Mount Joy express;
  • 760 Vaughan Mills / Wonderland.

YRT resumes collecting fares and requiring passengers to board through the front door, starting Thursday, July 2. That same day, masks are mandatory for YRT passengers and operators.

YRT is revising service along these routes: Viva blue; Viva orange; 20 Jane; 21 Vellore local; 26 Maple; 32 Aurora South; 44 Bristol; 77 Highway 7; 85 Rutherford; 88 Bathurst; 105 Dufferin; 165 Weston.

And it’s revising these Mobility On-Request services: Aurora - Oak Ridges; Bristol; and Vellore Local.

Introducing a new service

Mobility On-Request Vellore Local

Starting Monday, June 29, YRT introduces this new stop-to-stop request-responsive service in the Vellore area of Vaughan.

Mondays to Fridays from 5:30 until 9:15 a.m. and from 2 until 7:45 p.m., you can arrange for a YRT-marked vehicle to pick you up and drop you off at a bus stop in the service area.

To book a ride during service hours, call the YRT contact centre at 1-844-667-5327 at least an hour before your trip. Customer-service representatives will help you plan your trip. You may have to wait as long as an hour to allow the vehicle to complete other trips. The service operates on a first-come, first-served basis.

Regular YRT fares apply. The operators can accept all YRT fare media including PRESTO, the YRT Pay app, tickets and exact change. Operaters also issue transfers so you can connect with other YRT services.
